My Para 3

#1

Post by gull wing »

After nearly 20 years of working with my Spydercos, I came to realize My Para 3 Lightweight fitted with M390 is my favorite by far. Yes, I swapped blades. :bug-white This knife combination gives me several features I like:
1.Light weight 2.Just enough traction 3.Well rounded edges. 4.Deep wire clip. 5.A compression lock that is both very secure and quite easy to unlock. 6.Blade "free drops" closed. 7.The most comfortable handle I ever held. 8.Blade is centered. 9.M390 has qualities I like a lot, like gets screaming sharp, holds it's edge well, and not too difficult to sharpen and maintain. I just strop daily, and Sharpmaker now and then.

Now I am 80 years old so I don't do rough cutting anymore, have a small hand and this fits me perfectly.
This is MY PARA 3!

it's always nice when we find what works best for us. sounds like you got a really good knife there.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

I also love the Para 3 lightweight.
Use it more at home.
For EDC I switched to the dragonfly.

BD1N was my first Para 3 LW. I also have SPY27 and M390. I still like that BD1N with black handle

Yeah, I don't feel deprived, even though it is a cheaper steel. I think it is a great knife, and a great deal. I do want to try SPY27 in the future, in some model.

Agreed, the Para 3 LW its really hard to beat. It's definitely my number one recommendation for an EDC knife to non-knife people, as it showcases some of the industry's best features all in one knife. I have one in Rex45, and would really like to pick up another before too long. Hoping that someone orders an exclusive in olive green sooner or later.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

The p3lw is IMO the most underrated Spyderco I’ve handled. My first one was the m390 sprint and it kicked everything else out of my pocket die a long time.

I have a Rex45 also, I can’t seem to get it out of my pocket either.

Congrats on finding "the one"! Always a very satisfying feeling finding a knife (or knives, for those of us who are knife-polygamous :D) that works best for one's needs.
