Spydiechef XL FRN Salt

#1

Post by Evil D »

Would be the ultimate folding kitchen knife and camp/food prep knife. Make it in a linerless handle like the current Salts, FFG LC200N in both edges, but it really needs more blade and edge length so it can do proper food prep so around 4 inches would be nice. The rest of the design can stay just as it is, just make it longer and in FRN/back lock. It would be more affordable and better suited for the purpose of the design.

A thinner blade or TBE would be nice. Extra points for a fluted edge to make it really ultimate.

I am not convinced. Even if the edge would be 1" longer, it would still be a pretty tiny knife for food prep - probably fine to slice some salami or cheese, but not to prepare meat or vegetables. For me pocket knife can be a good addition on the go to a smaller / mid sized gyuto when cooking on a vacation. Making the pocket knife a little longer would not change that. On top of that - a pocket knife has a better chance to replace petty / paring knife - but for that it needs a thin and a narrow blade - the SpydieChef has none of that.

If it can’t be an XL, I would consider a thin behind the edge Vanax as a super slicer/food prep knife.

There are a lot of models I want to see given the Salt treatment.

Unfortunately, this one is pretty far down on the list.

i would be interested to see this. i've been looking at the spydiechef a lot lately since i don't have any ti framelock knives in my collection and i like that this one is different from all the rest that are out there. ideally, i'd like to see some of the issues people have with this model addressed before it gets any other treatment, but an xl version would certainly be interesting. personally, i'm not sure i'd want this one in an frn handle, but i could see the appeal, especially for actual kitchen/camp kitchen/filleting/water use.

I am a Spydiechef addict. I have two of them and I have had one or the other in my pocket for the last two years. I have said it many times before about wanting a 4"+ bladed version in LC200N or Vanax. I would prefer a titanium frame lock but I would be down for a titanium handled compression lock version as well. I just like the weight and feel titanium handles. I don't care for light weight knives very much. It's one of my weird ticks I guess.

I'm in for one or two, but zero if it's a compression lock.

As long as it’s not a frame or liner lock I’m interested.

This would be great, especially since the design keeps your knuckles off the cutting surface!

One thing I think we all can agree on is we need an XL folding Salt!
