What are the 4 numbers on the box?

#1

Post by TheRandomCarry »

Hey guys,

I know the letters denote the month/year….

But I have 3 Urbans, all bought in the last 2 weeks, 2 of which have the same 4 numbers on the box (and are also a perfect blade match), the other has a different number with ever so slightly different characteristics to the Jimping and finger choil.

Just wondered what those 4 numbers below the letters represented (if anything)?

I've yet to be able to figure that out. As you noted, the same numbers appear on the boxes of a multiple models and multiple variants of a given model.

I’m going to take a wild guess that it denotes lot or batch number.

Could it be the factory it came from?

It would make sense given that 2 of them had identical fit and finish (poor), but the different 4 digit number was perfect.

A = 1, B = 2, and so on. First letter is the month, 2nd the year. Have to wait till 2027 to see how years above 26 will be handled.

I thought AT would be 1/20 so January of 2020.

in my table it looks like this

The first letter is the month.
The second letter is the year.

That is, the first letter cannot be "M" or more
If I am wrong, then correct me.

First. Second
A a January 2001
B b February 2002
C c March 2003
D d April 2004
E e May 2005
F f June 2006
G g July 2007
H h August 2008
I i September 2009
J j October 2010
K k November 2011
L l December 2012
m 2013
n 2014
o 2015
p 2016
q 2017
r 2018
s 2019
t 2020
u 2021
v 2022
w 2023
x 2024
y 2025
z 2026

I have nothing to say about the four digits. I dont know.
I use translator most of the time.

There was a link to the old Spyderco catalogs.

Ok thanks, got it now. I was thinking the first letter was the first letter in the name of the month. Now I see it is the order of the months!
