Just liking my Para 3 LW

#1

Post by gull wing »

This week in my rotation, it's the Para3 LW that I swapped an M390 blade to it. I missed it, but I have other nice knives I must carry. Yes, I could carry it all the time.
This knife is such a great companion, it's light, fits my hand just right, deploys so smoothly, it's just easy.
The M390 is so good, I love it. Golden has the heat treat locked in. :)
I'm carrying the Para 3 LW with a smile this week.

I'm always pleasantly surprised by Spyderco lightweight models, my Mystic Manix has gotten much more use than I expected it to get. How well has the action broken in on your para 3 lw? I've heard conflicting reports.
Lightly insane.

I just picked one up in SPY27 and I'm really liking it too. I've avoided the compression lock, because I'm a lefty, but I'm finding those previous reservations to be unfounded. The action on mine has been great from the factory, centering is near perfect, ergos are pretty outstanding imho (I'm a fan of the choil/thumb ramp grip). I haven't had enough time with the SPY27 to really get a feel for it, but so far this knife checks a lot of boxes for me. Definitely enjoyable to carry.

My Para 3 was smooth right out of the box. No break in required. Blade dropped at push of tab.

Just finished ordering the Para 3 LTWT model. I have the G10 version and really like it but looking forward to this version.

I totally know this feeling how just clipping a knife I really enloy to my pocket can actually brighten up a day! :)

And I think Spyderco offers such a model (or more) for everyone. For me it is my old, trusty VG10 Stretch 1 today. :)
Top three going by pocket-time (update April 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10), Chaparral SE (CTS XHP)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Endela SE (K390)

Absolutely love these little buggers. Waiting for the Teal S90V version to come in.

Also a big fan of the lightweight models, same with the wire clip!

Feels almost TOO lightweight, and a tad blade heavy, but I think it's growing one me

Being used (and preferring) slightly blade heavy kitchen knives I actually find the balance spot on. The Para 3 LW is an awesome knife.

the P3LW is my first spyderco and I now see why everyone loves them.

Mine action was rather sticky out of the box. After flicking it a couple thousand cycles it still will not drop at all with gravity and requires a decent flick with the finger to get it to close. Its still too sticky to reliably wrist-flick it close.
Its strange, half the time the closing action is very smooth and closes all the way with a finger flick, then the other half of the time its stickier and I cant close it with a flick. Its not dirty, as it will happen back to back. Its strange. It is slowly getting smoother though.

Based on the videos I have seen it seems like the P3 (non-LW) does have a smoother action that I would prefer, but I wanted a hiking knife and couldnt justify the extra oz and extra $60 for the M390 P3. Im loving the 20CV LW so far. Maybe if a reasonably priced P3 with stainless super steel or LC200N comes along I'll give that a try too.

I went from zero P3LW to 2 P3LW this year. Really handy size for the weight. And way easier to clean out without liners/washer.
