legit website?

#1

Post by Rsm801 »

Am I allowed to ask if a website is legit and post that website or is that against forum rules?
If y'all say its ok, I will reply to this thread with the site I am wondering about, I cant find info on the net about it.
Thanks.

if it's not a Spyderco seller, this might belong in off-topic.

Ask away. It's fairly common for people here to ask about the legitimacy of a website that sells Spydercos, or if anybody has had good or bad experiences with a seller.

They say they are "my #1 source for knives". Who can argue with that?

But no, I have never done business with them.

they say call for the best deals too. I was wondering if they will give deals on some discontinued ones they have on the site.
who knows if the inventory is up to date, but I saw some models on there that are long gone elsewhere that I can add to my cart there....

I used to follow this "dealer" on instagram and have had some interaction with them. I'm sure as a store/website they are good, but other than that I'd be careful with them. This is a small business, my guess is less than 5 people (I think only one guy). Long story short I worked out a trade with them for a $500 knife and they sent me a $400 version of the knife and told me that the knife I was supposed to get was sent to someone else. The person who got the knife never responded to them so I was out $100 on the trade. It also took them a while to send out the knife. The person who runs the business/instagram said they'd be willing to make it right and I asked if they'd be willing to give me a Lil Native to account for the price difference and hassle. I waited a while and kept asking if it had shipped. He said that he had been sick and hadn't shipped it yet and that his stepdaughter had been doing the posts on instagram. BUT it was pretty clear that the posts around that time were man hands handling any knife action posts. I got many excuses of why it hadn't shipped and when he did finally say it shipped I never got the knife or tracking information and assume it was a lie that it shipped. After a few months I messaged him one last time about what was going on, it shows he read my message on instagram, but he never replied.

From my experiences with them I won't be doing any business with them in the future. BUT I have bought from them on one occasion from the website and it was a smooth transaction. Basically I'm saying is buying directly from the site should be fine, but other transactions such as trades to do at your own risk.

I'm pretty skeptical, they have Mule Team blades listed at the SFO prices. Those are only sold direct by Spyderco (seller wouldn't make a dime basically).

It almost looks like they scraped Spyderco.com down to the MAP pricing and sale prices of some of the disco'd items at that time. Maybe a confused drop-shipper or possibly a scam site, it doesn't add up to me.

Why would anyone deal with an outfit that has both low visibility and questionable practices? Trying to save a few dollars can really cost you in the end. I like sellers that are customer-focused and carry legitimate goods. I don’t mind paying a bit more to keep them in business.
