Two notes:

1. Masaad Ayoob is a discontinued model. Probably better to buy one sooner than later if you want one.

2. The re-rengineered Gunting's in S30V are still something like a month away from shipping.

Ayoob.. easier to carry. IMO To make the Gunting worth carrying you need to buy a lot more than just the knife. You need a sheath, a drone, the training tapes, and a lot of free time. Well if you plan to learn how to use it that is. If you're just planning to get a box opener then they'll both work fine.

My vote is the Ayoob.

I'd say the Ayoob, but be sure that it is the one with the less-slippery handle than the 1st version.

Also, you might want to think about the Police or Endura models.

The Gunting. What do you mean "re-engineered Guntings"?
Unless you want to buy my extra Ayoob, then I'd say the Ayoob.....<img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
Actually, when you can, I'd get them both....<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

In addition to the blade steel switch, I believe that Spyderco is making some small tweaks to the Gunting's compression lock, etc., (the usual generational upgrades).

I carry a Gunting of and on and have done since Christmas. Without the training(like myself) it is quite a handful. The clip is high up so it can be with drawn quickly. For EDC I think I would go with the Ayoob, although the Gunting is a tank of a folder. You would not ever have to worry about breaking it thats for sure. Which ever one feels better in your hand is the one to go with. They are both fairlly specialized so go with what feels good and what you like. Good luck!

Thanks folks...I'm probably going with the Ayoob as it is a bit rarer to find. And I'll take the lessons to use the Gunting properly.

I'd go with the Ayoob also. I've fallen in love with the Ayoob and have 3 of them. Looking for a smooth handled PE to add to the stable.
