OT...Dangerous Places

#1

Post by dynaryder »

Hey all, seeing as how most of you strike me as being the 'adventurous types',I was wondering how many Dangerous Places fans are here. For those of you not familiar w/DP,it's a book and TV series edited/hosted by a journalist named Robert Young Pelton, the dude who was the last person to interview the Afghan Northern Alliance's leader. It talks about some of the more 'interesting' spots on the planet. IMHO,it's prolly the single best unclassified source of what's what and who's who in all the world's hot spots. The fifth addition is coming out soon and I highly recommend it for anyone who's curious about why some of today's worst conflicts are happening. The writing style has a certain wry wit that keeps you engrossed, while at the same time it's heavy on facts and even-handed on bias. After reading all the doom and gloom about various 3rd world countries there's a section on the US that'll keep us Yanks from getting too full of ourselves. All-in-all,a very good read.

Also, any fans hear anything about Pelton's status? Read on CNN.com back in Jan that he got snatched up by some rebels in Panama. Anyone hear of an update?

Interesting...Never heard of the books but seems like it would make for a good, informative read...

Dangerous places seem adventurous and alluring to a certain type of person. I was one of them once. Then after you go to a few and see trouble and death it doesn't seem so inviting any more. Just scary and awful.
