Action smoother on G10 Dragonfly vs FRN version?
Have you guys noticed if the action is smoother on the VG 10 G10 version of the dragonfly? I love the weight, or lack thereof, of the FRN ZDP 189 in my front pocket, but am wanting to try out the G10 version if the action is noticeably smoother. What is your experience with it?

you can adjust the tightness of your blade if desired and it will loosen up with use. I suppose that a little light sewing machine oil would also help to smooth out the action. I have a VG10 G10 Dragonfly 2 and a FRN ZDP 189 Dragonfly 2 both on the way might be here tomorrow or Monday. My plan is to swap the blades as I much prefer the look and feel of the G10 Dragonfly 2 and want to use the ZDP 189 as my edc.

Great idea! I did both the pivot adjustment and some good knife lube, but still not as smooth as I’d like after breaking in. The G10 has washers and mine doesn’t appear to have them so thought that might be a difference that makes a difference. If you would let me know how the blade swap goes and how you find each of them Is be grateful. If there is a difference with the washers, I may try that same blade switch if yours goes as planned. Enjoy the landing tomorrow.

To answer your question, yes in my opinion, the G-10/ VG-10 version of the Dragonfly is smoother in action than any other FRN Dfly I own or have handled.

I don't own the G10 version but my Salt Dfly is smooth as silk. I do grease my pivots though and it has years of use.

I would expect washers to add to the drag, the way a grease adds drag where an oil does not. Your knife is hard top quality steel and the moving parts will take lots of time to get smooth. I have no personal experience yet so I can't offer much more. My brother just bought a para 3 and in only a few ways it was dropping easily on its own as soon as the lock was disengaged so perhaps there are differences in build quality. How long have you had your knife? Perhaps others with a collection of Dragonfly 2 will comment.Technium wrote:Great idea! This is pretty much my experience too! Not the FRN Dragonflies aren't smooth, they are. The G10 version just takes it up a notch. Plus the stainless steel backspacer and liners give it a little extra heft and they look nice too.xceptnl wrote:To answer your question, yes in my opinion, the G-10/ VG-10 version of the Dragonfly is smoother in action than any other FRN Dfly I own or have handled.
I carried my G10 DF for the first time in awhile today. I had almost forgotten what a nice little knife it is.
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!

I’ve had it a couple of weeks, opening and closing frequently, so equivalent to 6 weeks

So smooth my g10 Dragonfly. EDC for over 4 years. Using Nano Oil on the pivot. One of Spyderco's best.

I actually carried my G10 DF2 today as well. My G10 version is noticeably smoother than the FRN models. Love 'em all, but if I had to pick one, it would be G10.Sharp Guy wrote:This is pretty much my experience too! Not the FRN Dragonflies aren't smooth, they are. This! That little guy has the smoothest action of any FRN model I own...Evil D wrote:I don't own the G10 version but my Salt Dfly is smooth as silk. I do grease my pivots though and it has years of use.

Well, I'll also point out that the pivot isn't quite as tight as I'm sure the G10 version is either so that definitely makes a difference.ZMW wrote:This!
