You can make any Spyderco an XL...
...which models do you choose?
1. Pacific Salt XL. 4.5-4.75" blade, maybe switch it to the powerlock if its salt compatible. The FRN Police 4 comes very close!
2. Spyderhawk. Same as above.
3. Ark. Similar feature set with enough handle for a four finger grip. Increase sheath retention to compensate for heavier knife.
4. Manix XXL. I'd like to see one with a 4.5"-5" blade. I've always felt like the Manix design would work well in a mega folder.
5. Swick 3 XL. Same knife with double the cutting edge. Apparently Cold Steel had something close to this but its discontinued, as is the Swick. The Swick is one of my favorite fixed blades to EDC, but the small size means I always need to carry a second knife for certain jobs.

Manix 2...all I want is the length extended 1/2-3/4 inch in the blade and handle... literally just stretch it out. Cut the blade at the tang and add length, then cut the handle in half in the middle and add length. The current XL changes too much.
Dragonfly 2...just add about 3/8 to the blade and handle, doing the same thing as the Manix 2.
Yojimbo 2...same ordeal, just stretch it out about half to three quarter inch.
Mantra...since it's kinda like a flipper Delica, how about an Endura sized Mantra?

Mantra 2 XL with 4 or 4.5" LC blade, Ti scales and bronze washers. The design of this knife would still allow for easy carry, and be great around water. Wish I had the computer skills to mock this up. Bring it on.
Re: You can make any Spyderco an XL...
I like the idea of a Yojumbo. Make it big enough for a full grip with only the index finger in the first finger groove and extend the blade.

XL para 3. Oh... Oh wait..
Re: You can make any Spyderco an XL...
Dragonfly XL Linerless 3D G-10 ZDP-189 :D

Chaparral XL. Use that thin, sharp blade to slice up watermelons and such.

The overall design is much different but the Centofante folders are light and slim with 2mm blades. Might be worth a look if the lack of a choil or FFG isn't a deal breaker for your tastes.prog_knife wrote:Chaparral XL. Use that thin, sharp blade to slice up watermelons and such.
This is also one of the reasons I'd like to pick up a catcherman. Thin and long blades are perfect for my uses. Anything over 2.5mm in a folding knife is dead weight for how I use them.

YoJumbo. Great idea, but will need a different handle configuration because the current one fits me great and upsizing that will make the finger notches too big if you just size up. Need a clever design that Vivi's hands will like, but still leave spacing right for my small hands.

I would love to see the Manix 2 back lock made into a XXL. What I do not like about the current XL CBBL is that the handle is too confining.

I'd pick the Native to XXL and run it in CPM Cruwear naturally.
Vivi, after seeing your thread in the other section about Cycling cross country I understand more why you feel a few ounces is significant. I'm still at the stage where I like full liners and extra beef where a knife benefits from it as well as both scales being Titanium rather than one G10 or Carbon fiber. I understand the reason those materials are chosen but I am comforted by steel or titanium scales or liners. As long as the blades are thin and good at their sole purpose. I don't require thick blades and have never come close to breaking any of my knives.

I like the idea of a bigger Spydiechef. I wish it was bigger.

Roadie.
Profiled, textured scales, beefy sheepsfoot blade, a bit like a modern version of the old British Army jack-knife. Unthreatening but unstoppable.
