Buying Knives

Just curious, where do most of you purchase your spydies? Do you prefer to shop online or at an actual store. If you do shop online has anyone ever heard of Excalibur Enterprises? I just made a purchase from them and now I am thinking that it would problably have been wise to ask this before ordering.

If the only way to buy a knife was to walk into a store and buy it for full retail, I probably wouldn't own any.

The thrill of the chase is more than half the deal for me; looking for that unbelieveable deal, or that impossible to find discontinued model. And that entails looking online, haunting gun shows, and buying from other collectors.

The anticipation of waiting for one to arrive in the mail adds to the excitement too, at least for me

I bid on a lot of Spydies on Ebay. I have a policy however. When I enter my first bid I'm entering the MAXIMUM amount I'm willing to pay. If I'm outbid (and I usually am) I never return to the page, thus escaping the temptation to cast another bid. You can get some excellent deals this way.

When I'm seriously looking to purchase a Spydie (as opposed to just "deal hunting&quot I usually just order from New Graham or Smoky Mountain.

I purchase the majority of my knives online - the nearest dealer with any selection is a 6 hour drive away

Most of my online purchase are made with Linda ( glasshartt@aol.com ). She is a Spyderco dealer in El Paso Texas, and has the best prices around. She doesn't have a website but send her an email and she will send you a price list. I know many others on this Forum also do business with her and will unanimously recommend her!

Linda makes my money in to Spydies, and she really does it well!! Glasshartt (Linda) is my "online" knifedealer.

I go to a Brick&Morter store, to handle the knives(which is only needed with the new models(if they get them in), otherwise I go by opinions.

My purchases in the last year have been from Linda, with another one getting paid off after pay day on the 18th or 19th... MO for 115USD, and shipment to me after it's recieved.

Linda has saved me a good deal of cash already, but it's gonna cost me with income taxes(this one brings it to about 750-800CAN I have to pay taxes on when I file).

I'll check them out at B&Ms, but I really don't buy from them. When the price is too high, I don't care what overhead you have to pay, I'll go elsewhere. I figure that I drop $50 every time I walk into my favorite Store/shooting range on the range, so handling a few s is no problem.

Time was, there was a little gun/knife shop nearby I liked, and would pay a few $ more than normal to help the guy out. Sadly, when CCW laws here got really tough, he went out of business.

Never underestimate the impossible.

I don't think I've ever bought a Spydie from a B&M. About the only place I buy knives/tool/lights offline is the BX,unless they're on clearance. I spend too much feeding my habit as it is. The online places are generally way cheaper.

Checked out Excalibur Enterprises. Whoa! No likey those price$. Next time try a Google search or the following:

http://www.newgraham.com/

http://www.southsummit.com/index.htm

I've bought from all of the above w/good results.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement and suggestions. I don't mind buying online it's just that I hate waiting for my purchase to arrive in the mail. I like that instant gratification of buying in person. Besides, when ordering online I have to make sure I get the mail before the wife does or she will discover my purchase and I will get "the look" and a lecture.

I am definitely adding that one to my collection!

My landlord usually gets the packages cause i am not in, so I open them up and show him.
Since knives are the only packages I recive, the running joke is "Gee, I wonder what is in this Package?"

No swmbo yet.
