Keep ending up with Spyderco....

#1

Post by kingston73 »

For a while I was buying other knives, got myself a few benchmade and zero tolerance in the past couple years and was down to just a pm2, but somehow Spyderco keeps coming back. I now have a domino in my pocket and just preordered a pm3 and have a sage 5 waiting for pickup at the post office, and I'm currently selling 2 benchmades. My very first "good" knife was a delica (back in the days of cast plastic clips) that still rides around in my truck, guess spydies just stick with me.

I'm looking forward to the pm3 but has there been an actual release date yet? And do you think having a sage 5 and pm3 is redundant? Or do you think they'll be different enough to keep both?

Right?
I have an awesome chance to buy up a coworkers Microtech Scarab Navy at $250 which BHQ prices at $599.00, yet I find myself looking at all these other spydies to add to my collection instead.
What's a guy to do??
Spydies I own:
Domino Blue CF
K2 Farid Mehr Bowie
Delica 4 FRN w/Emerson wave
PM2 in digicam
Spyderfly balisong
Harpy SS
Matriarch2 FRN w/Emerson wave
GOD BLESS JOHN NOVESKE R.I.P

The Sage and pm3 have different blade shapes and different handle shapes, but it is possible they could be overly similar as I don't know the ergos would vary all that much.

I try not to bad mouth other companies. There are corporations that make nice knives. But they don't seem to have any soul.

Spyderco is a knife company, run by people who love knives. It shows all through the product lines. I never bought that many other brands in the past. Now I barely even look anywhere else other than customs.

I'm the same way. I'm a knife guy. Always the guy that has a knife when someone needs one. My collection goes every which way from case to buck to benchmade to Swiss army to spyderco, with a few customs thrown in. But it seems whenever there is a choice between a spyderco and something else, and only enough money for one, the spyderco always comes home with me.

ArmaliteKinght....pick up the microtech for $250...flip it on ebay for $400ish?

Oh, and happy thanksgiving to all. :)

I just quit trying to be happy with other brands, in general.

There's definitely nice stuff out there, in some cases at very good prices. I really like the trend of budget brand collaborations. It's really my addiction to serrations that keeps me from straying much.

I feel like other companies are desperately trying to innovate whereas Spyderco is more conservative and utilitarian. I think it's the right approach but occasionally something really surprising pops up under a different brand (Boker mini Kwaiken!).

They all just work so well. Even the ones that look weird, make sense when you hold and use them for a while. And spydies have variety. Big, small, exotic steel, colored frn, titanium, stainless.
Some other companies make nice knives but almost all of the knives are the same blade size. With blade length restrictions, why only sell 4" blades? Makes no sense to me.
