I stopped by my back up B and M store. Came across a few things I haven't seen before or even read about.
I found a really nice BM-North Fork folding knife. G10 handles with a light/dark blue or gray pattern (color blind and can't tell which but nice). 2.97" recurve blade. Very thick blade but sharp S30V and pointy tip. Made very well and strong. Axis lock. A decent deal at $149. I thought the detent seemed a little weak. Shaken hard, blade would pop out a little but got sucked back in. I realized later that it was fine and just a little weaker then my 950s. I may buy it today.
Ironically, I bought this Ontario Arrow Dozier design (1st production run) for $50. Weakest detent of any knife I own or have handled. The store was closing and I never checked detent. I do not know what to make of this knife. The knife looks very similar to a larger BM 530. Spear point blade and finger guards on both sides of handle. No jimping, not needed. It has D2 steel. G10 handles (nice grip) with a partial liner on lock side. Very light, maybe 3ozs. The G10 flexes with a pinch mostly in middle. A partial backspacer or another standoff probably would have fixed this. More flex then on a Manix 2 LW of which I have total confidence in. I'm not sure about the Ontario..I hacked about 30 1/8" branches from a shrub. It was OK but I felt a little flex a couple times. The lock feels very solid but I wonder how well the steel liner is attached. Not meant for heavy tasks but has a 3.6 " blade. The thumb stud is recessed in handle but works pretty well. The clip is huge (Military size) and held on by one screw thru the G10 and liner. I may hold onto it and see how it holds up. It has a black blade and looks to be the same paint they use on Rat. Im a little leary about detent, it's tip up right side only anyway.
Last, I saw an Ontario Rat One with G10 scales (coarse). I said to myself-finally nice G10. Of course they had to make it an A/O. No thanks, too bad.
Sorry if this sounds like a review. I just found the three knives interesting in different ways. I'm surprised I had never even heard of them or the changes..
