Your Average Spyderco Knives' Purchases in USD
Just on average, how much are your Spyderco Knives' purchases.
Granted that street prices have edged up due to the recent MAP enforcement.
During my 2005-2008 purchases it averaged under $100! However, during my 2012-2016 purchases it has ballooned to the $150.00-$199.99 range. I "blame" the wonderful Sprints/Exclusives and Taichung knives for that giant leap! For Spyderco knives I take a much closer look in the $200.00-$249.99 price range, a very serious look in the $250.00-$299.99 price range and an extremely cautionary look at the $300.00+ price range.
In general, my overall purchases of knives (including other knife manufacturers/makers) averages in the $200.00-$249.99 range.
Another poll could be for the maximum amount one has paid for a Spyderco knife (inflated secondary market pricing excluded). Personally, that'd be the ParaMilitary2 Carbon Fiber CPM 154/CPM S90V (only 300 pieces made) for which I paid a full MSRP of $470!

Re: Your Average Spyderco Knives' Purchases in USD
I did the math and my average purchase price is $92.63. That's for folders, lady/manbugs, fixed blades, and Mule Team knives (without factoring in all the additional costs of making handles for all the Mules).
However, folders are much more representative of what I buy and carry, so if I look at just the clip-it SKUs, my average turns into $105.37. Still lower than I would have thought, though keep in mind that 15 of those are factory seconds and 3 were free (won through contests), so that drags my average purchase price down. My cheapest purchase was $10 for a factory 2nd CF Chicago and $20 for a factory 2nd Centofante 3. My most expensive was $400 for a WTC D'Allara followed by $248 for a Southard flipper.

I "blame" ParaMilitary2 for the majority of votes in the $100.00-149.99 price range.

Re: Your Average Spyderco Knives' Purchases in USD
As I live in Canada, this is kind of tough to answer but I'm pretty sure I'm in the $150-$199 range.
I'm glad these numbers got split up. There's a big difference between $110 and $290. I know because my wife likes to constantly remind me.

Re: Your Average Spyderco Knives' Purchases in USD
Some of the best Spydrecos fall in that $100-$150 range in my opinion, but due to my love of the Stretch, Delica, Endura and all the Salt knives, the sub $100 range is home to the largest portion of my folders.
Re: Your Average Spyderco Knives' Purchases in USD
I kinda fell right around 150....but figured more 200-300....than 100 or less...so 150-200 sounds about right.

Re: Your Average Spyderco Knives' Purchases in USD
I went all in on this thread and actually tallied up the total I've spent on my 27 Spydercos. They represent over half of all my knives by quantity, and a much larger majority of dollars spent. While I found the total just short of revelatory (~$3,106), it equates to an average of about $115. Even though I purchase many (10/27) Spydercos pre-owned (used and unused) and have scored some very sweet deals, I've also overpaid for a couple rarities so it all seems to balance out to normal market price.
I think this is a good representation of where I like to live on the price scale. Having a 2 in the hundreds place generally makes me uneasy. There is an irrationally huge difference in the feeling I get from seeing $195 at checkout and seeing $209, otherwise I'd have a Vrango by now. Oh, how I want one! Below $100 doesn't even require justification beyond "I want it". Up to $150, it's pretty easy to live with. From there to $200 it's a much deliberated decision which actually has resulted in passing on some real gems like the new green Military. Over $200, it's gotta be a pretty much do or die situation.
Some day soon my thresholds will move up, as I'm still making my way in this world. Until then, $100-149.99 really isn't a bad place to be. :)

Did the numbers get reset? I've voted once already here. Maybe it's my browser.

In the past they've been $100-150 but I suspect with MAP pricing that's going to change to $150-200-250.

Re: Your Average Spyderco Knives' Purchases in USD
Okay, voted again. I haven't bought any knives since my first vote this morning, so I'm still in the $100-149.99 bracket. :p
I will admit, however, that most of the ones I'm currently interested in are in the $150-300 range. Whether or not I buy them remains to be seen, but even if I do I have enough other knives that it won't change the average price into a higher bracket any time soon.

Re: Your Average Spyderco Knives' Purchases in USD
I roughly did the math and its about $100.
I don't own any 'exciting' or sprint run Spydercos but hope to soon. My collection has to be thinned out first.
In late 2013 (I think), I knowingly overpaid for my 1st PM2 at a B&M. It was camo/black..PM2s were scarce and I had to have one. It was either $160 or $165. I must have had the sales guy take it out of case and put it back 20 times. It was hard enough to rationalize $130 but even tougher at that price. But, I never regretted buying it..
i really think my limit is $200. Besides this forum I know/knew exactly 2 knife guys. One, I'm friendly with is selling an SNG. It's one of my favorite knives but the thought of buying it lasted about 2 seconds. Unfortunately, the other guy (local city cop) who I was really friendly with died suddenly 5 days ago. I'm baffled, sad and pissed.

Re: Your Average Spyderco Knives' Purchases in USD
Most of my knives have been purchased LNIB from the secondhand market. All are current models and, using MAP price from a dealer, the estimated average price is about $100-$150. I'll do a little figuring later to see how close my estimate is. I'll make my entry in the poll when I have a better idea of the true average price.

I don't know any knife guys. Occasionally I'll geek out on whatever I'm carrying to a friend, but only for the few precious seconds that I can hold their attention. I take the hint well, but I still try. :)
My most expensive knife is a $275 stainless serrated ATR. I should feel ashamed, but I don't. Not only is that well over MSRP (let alone street price), but every one I've seen for sale since has been cheaper. I don't care though. This knife is like dirty, wild, uninhibited sex. You can't have it all the time, but when you can get away with it...oh god yes...

Re: Your Average Spyderco Knives' Purchases in USD
My most expensive spydie would be 525...it's a Santa Fe Stoneworks custom Damascus Endura with blue coral and mother of pearl with blued Titanium bolsters....unfortunately I've never carried it...they did up both scales, therefore no clip, and Endura too big (illegal) for a concealed in pocket knife.....don't really want to do a belt sheath, like a buck 110, but would probably fit.BostonTom wrote:I roughly did the math and its about $100.

Around $200
Hi Folks!
My average Spyderco knives prices roughly goes around $200, considering both the hi and low prices and everything in between. :)

Re: Your Average Spyderco Knives' Purchases in USD
Yikes, I rarely pay more than $75 for a knife. Usually under $50. Used helps, and the quality of regular models compared to the expensive ones doesn't hurt either.
That also means I don't own a PM2 and probably won't.

Re: Your Average Spyderco Knives' Purchases in USD
I went ahead and added up my collection and shocked myself with the total $$. I don't know how the total $$ got so out of hand....I've only kept my 25 favorites.? I mostly prefer high end Spydercos but to my surprise my actual average is a reasonable $191.00. A bargain if you ask me!

My two Spyderco knife purchases of this year have averaged $171. Both were purchased at MAP (40% off MSRP).
My average during 2005-2011 was $76. The most expensive one I have from back then is my Chinook II which cost me $106. Least expensive was Endura for $43.
Up until 2012 my most expensive Spyderco knives averaged just over $102 and I got all three in September 2005:

Re: Your Average Spyderco Knives' Purchases in USD
Well, for about the past decade, I have averaged very few USD spent on Spyderco knives, per year, because I bought so many good ones in the late Nineties, into this century, up to the production time of the Gunting and original Ronin and Yojimbo. I bought enough Guntings and Ronins to average several hundred dollars a year, during that era.
It is not that I do not like Spyderco these days, just that I bought a lifetime supply of a few models I really like, and nothing has been introduced since then to make me open my wallet.
There was a recent disruption, in late 2015, when I acquired a pink-handled Spyderco, of a now-forgotten model, which I gave to my wife. This cost just over $100, but when averaged with previous years, means my best poll reply is under $100. I may have bought my Assist within the past decade.
A couple of newer Spydercos have my attention, so I may spend cash later this year.
