Paypal may be able to help prevent the sale of fakes on Ebay!

A place to list and reference all Spyderco counterfeits, clones, and replicas that are found. Anything that isn't a legitimate Spyderco fits in this area.

Paypal may be able to help prevent the sale of fakes on Ebay!

So, I just got directed to this change in recent Paypal policy for an unrelated reason:
https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/ua/a ... leuse-full" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You may not use the PayPal service for activities that:
2. relate to transactions involving ...... (h) items that infringe or violate any copyright, trademark, right of publicity or privacy or any other proprietary right under the laws of any jurisdiction,
(Note- My emphasis)

So- if the Ebay seller is offering a counterfeit Spyderco and offer Paypal- make sure you report the listing to Paypal too.....There's a link at the bottom of the page to do so.

Likewise, any Chinese clone seller offering Paypal should be reported....
If we, the community, flood Paypal with the reports we can at least say we've done our little bit for it....Clearly, it's far from cut and dried, but I consider that every little helps :)

A question I have would be is it then the responsibility of the owner of the company who rights are being infringed upon? And not the typical buyer, similar to Ebay's policy. Where the owner contacts Ebay and reports the violation. Also what happens to the transaction if a buyer reports that he has purchased an item that fits into that category?

Dunno- ask Paypal.....But the way I read it is: if you spot a copywrite being infringed then ping it.

Interesting. Anything that makes life more difficult for counterfeiters and traffickers in counterfeit goods has the potential to be beneficial. However, if a customer's unsubstantiated claim of having received a fake is all it takes, then I also see a tremendous potential for abuse by unscrupulous buyers.

Deacon, what are some ways the unscrupulous buyers could abuse that policy? Someone claiming they purchased a fake when they really did not, in order to get a refund or something?

I hope this can cut down on the fakes/counterfeits out there.
