H1 lives up to the hype

#1

Post by lambertiana »

This past summer my son had a job working for a pool service business. He spent each day servicing pools around town, and in course of each day he regularly had to open bags of pool treatment chemicals. Some of those are powerful oxidizers. He started with his Native, but at the end of one day the blade was covered with rust. So I got him a Dragonfly Salt. After that, he didn't have a speck of rust, and he said that he often did not even bother wiping the pool chemicals off the blade. All in all I think H1 really shines in corrosive environments. And that Dragonfly Salt has become his favorite knife.

Good to know, I've heard stories with lots of salt water, I guess its resistive powers don't end there....Nice

Hey lambertiana,
Thanks for the cool story. I think it's pretty cool to see real-world examples of how things work. Especially H1 steel. :D Btw, welcome to the forum!

That's amazing, even for H1! Some of those chemicals make me cringe. Good to hear the DF2 Salt didn't even flinch. Really cool that Spyderco has this incredible line-up to perform these jobs! :spyder:
Going back to Caly.

Thank you for telling us about this. H1 Stainless steel is amazing stuff. It is literally science fiction made reality. People predicted purely rust proof steel decades ago, now we have it.

A few years back when H1 Spydercos came on the scene a student of mine who purchased a H1 Steel Atlantic Salt dropped it into the water while using it on his sail boat off a friends dock....Bye Bye Spyderco....but he knew where he had dropped it and said he would retrieve it a later date....It took him more than a year to remember and attempt recovery....he used a clam rake and up came the Atlantic Salt, a little muddy but not a speck of rust on it....he still using that knife every day never wipes it down and puts it into his pockets wet.....That one year+ in salt water made me a real believer...H1 is amazing stuff!!!!...Doc:)

I can only vouch for mine, and it has been in chlorinated pools and the Gulf of Mexico MANY times and is no worse for wear. Salts are the true workhorses of the line up and I think even folks who live nowhere near an ocean still reach for a Salt when there is real work to be done
