Sell me on the Endura 4?

#1

Post by DansGunBlog »

Do you love the Endura 4? tell me about it...

Looking at the Endura and trying to understand how it fits in the current line-up.

Spyderco has come out with some very interesting knives over the years, with many impressive options available today. Where does the Endura fit today tho...

I was actually looking at the Pacific Salt, but not crazy about the old scale pattern with bolt clip, which is how I got to the Endura.

Tho may still go Matriarch 2... undecided.

Thanks!

I'd be happy to sell you on the Delica 4. It's all the knife I ever need.

That's the first Spyderco I got & I loved it. I've now got a new native, a Manix S110v & few others, and the Endura is honestly still one of my favorites. If I didn't sharpen a quarter of the blade away on my quest to learn how to sharpen,it would prob be my favorite knife of all. I'm actually thinking of buying another one to replace this one.

easily one of the lightiest, handiest large slicing blades i had. my first was a ffg vg 10 with green frn. super simple to keep sharp, there everytime i needed it and i didnt notice carrying it around until then. currently hunting for a super blue sprint and waiting for the up coming hap40 sprint myself.

Dan, I don't know how to talk you into an Endura. Either it works for you or not. I've carried one since 92 and have one of all versions made except a damascus bladed version. I have a lot of other knives. I carry some other knives too but always have an endura with me. The handle, size, blade shape, opening hole, everything in fact just works well for me. My favorite so far is a Super Blue steel version.

I like the picture you use as an avatar. You and the dog both have a smiles on your faces. :)

The Endura is lightweight, gives you 3.8" of blade, good ergos, great cutting performance, and is frequently graced with Sprint versions. When closed, the knife is fairly narrow relative to the overall length, and is one of 2 knives I own that can comfortable fit in my back jeans pocket next to my wallet. The Sprint versions of this knife are great, but even the VG-10 version is a work horse.

Also, every version of the Endura, except for the jigged-bone/damascus version, is very kind to the finances.

There is nothing to sell. It is the largest, lightest, most affordable, best in class value. It may be too big, but if size is no issue there is nothing else close. Possibly the Griptillian but no FFG and no SE or Wave opener. You need to pass on the Mat 2 man. One trick pony, albeit a very good trick. Stop over thinking and get an E4. Practicality rules for EDC

@twinboysdad Ha, now here it's getting interesting. LOL indeed, you saw my other thread... I got TO the Endura the roundabout way...

Currently got a Tasman Salt which is a great, lightweight, pocket free float knife as a complement to the Military, primary EDC.

Got me thinking, i sure do like something a touch bigger, maybe the Pac Salt (tho i don't care for the old scales design), or Matriarch 2?

Which led me to the Endura 4... so pondering a fully serrated Endura 4 as a complement to the Military, or as standalone gym shorts pocket free floating... wish it was H1, but it's stainless, quick rinse and the occasional Ballistol like my guns get and it's fine lol.

Thank you kindly, Joe. That's my baby boy... Not a **** thing in this world loves you like a dog. That sheer joy every time they see you... it's frankly humbling. Our challenge is to be worthy of that love and loyalty. I do my darndest every day. :)

If you want full SE go H1 Pac Salt. H1 is the king of SE. The Old scales are fine. You only lose the ability to go tip down like your Millie. If no SE, go FFG E4 or Emerson opener

I have a Delica and it's a great, do all, work knife. I'll definitely be picking up the HAP 40 version to complement it. Wish I could afford some G11 swimming pool green scales for it from Kevin Wilkins.

Thin. Easy to pocket. Large blade. One handed clip, secure in pocket. The newer Enduras come in FFG, have a larger thumb hole, adjustable pivot point, nested liner, bi-directional grip pattern (though the old volcano grip is no slouch), 4 position clip placement. I was carrying my PM2s for a bit, but am back to the E4, old or new, I carry them both. New Endura on left.

I love the Endura. It's pretty slim in my pocket and it gives me a lot of cutting power. It feels good in my hand. Also, the price... it's tough to beat the price.

Thanks for the helpful pic!! Hmmm... I do like the new handle and new clip.

Dammit... this is how it happens lol... i kinda want both the E4 FFG black and the Pacific Salt black...

this picture could very well be of a E4 FFG next to a black Pacific Salt as well, right?

Too big?!? LOL I don't know what those words could mean as applies to a blade... confused. :-)

They are similar...

E4 - PS

8.750" - 8.687" length overall
5.000" - 4.875" length closed
3.750" - 3.812" blade length
3.400" - 3.000" weight oz
3.438" - 3.438" cutting edge
VG-10 - H-1

I believe the PS does not have the nested liner. The blade shapes are different.

My point is the only thing anyone could say negative that I would acknowledge is "too big" meaning either legal or personal preference. I am with you though, E4 size is just right

Wasn't sure if you saw my reply above - but your points were spot on... I did get here from the Matriarch 2, and yeah, the E4 is more of a fit for what I'm looking for here.

Thanks!
