More Vesuvious Discussion

I got really bored tonight, and went over to the Bladeforum, forum, where one of the folks over there had bad problems with his early release Vesuvius. Ours is also an early release, I've had it almost a year, purchased at the end of Jan. of this year. I have not used it as hard as our old Endura, but for a at home only EDC, I've used it harder then anything else. I also did a test I usually don't conduct on our knives, because I believe it's abusive, and not all that realistic, but I did a hard spinewack on it! I have been carrying it all this week at home, it still has no horizonal, nor lateral blade play(locks up as tight as any other co, we have). The action is the next smoothest to our Benchmade mini-AFCK, and 940! Ours is the inlay model, and it has held up fine, as well. Next to a bone handle slip joint, or our custom stag handle fixed blade custom hunter, this knife is pretty, as tac knives go! I read over at the other forum that co has temporarly stopped manufacture of the current Vesuvious, and that when it starts up again, it will be redsigned(possibly a lockback). Will this make the current modles more desirable to co collectors? Not that I would want to part with ours. I will say this, and it's probably just because of familiarity, I still fill more comfortable with a lockback! That said, I think the compression lock is a great design, in my view, it's the state of the art liner lock. RKBA!

I'd be surprised if spydeco stopped production on the vesuvius. I just got mine and it was backordered (read: not manufactured yet). Unless that was the last run ...

<EDIT> just checked BF, yeah, Sal says production stopped, reengineering taking place. I should know better than to start typing before properly researching. BAD Mac.

However, I have not experienced any problems with mine, and it's an EDC.

rico, as stated, the Vesuvius' design is fairly tricky and some of them are done well and some of them have lock problems or lateral play. In my case I have very strange lateral play when closed, and Mike told me that they can't replace with another one cause they're reengineered and are on back orders. That was somewhere in October I believe.
I didn't want to part with it. It's one sexy looking blade (mine was an inlay, and I consider that if you fear this blade, you're the knife ignorant) and feels great in the hand, and likely better cutter than the Endura cause it's thinner than the Endura. Too bad they have to reengineer it....

I have been on the edge of buying one. I don't fully understand the compression lock having never handled a Vesuvius. I missed out on the plain one for $33 but can still get the fancy one for $54. Is this a good deal? Jerry

A FINE KNIFE! Had my "issue(s)"(if you

will with the "compression lock")

Changed carry modality to "tip down"

but decided to pass Mr Centofante's

work of art to "Mrs." DiALEX.

Spydies for ALL! Say I!!!

That's true, indeed. The Vesuvius from ATE seems very well made. No blade play and the lock is rock solid. It really is a fine knife
