Is the Swick 4. I got this one a couple of months ago but it's mostly sat unused since my halpern handles didn't arrive before I left the u.s.. Well I got the handles a couple of weeks ago and I've been carrying this one fishing everyday! I've always liked a neck knife for kayak fishing because it is accessible but out of the way. Well, the Swick is proving to be an exceptional little fixed blade for neck carry on my Hobie.
I use it for everything from cutting line to gilling and bleeding fish and ive even been cleaning some of the small pan fish with it. It's a very capable little fixed blade. By far my favorite feature is the finger hole. It allows me to get a secure grip and also allows me to use both hands without putting down the knife. Most importantly it helps prevent me dropping a slippery knife in the drink!
I really wish I had found this one sooner as its making a great addition to my fishing/boating arsenal.
Don't be concerned!! It hasn't displaced my pacific salt or anything...I just carry both now. Plus a couple more salts stashed around the kayak. You can never have too many knives! :D
Glad you like them! I remember when I recommended the Halpern scales to you, but you actually ordered them a few hours prior or something. :) Glad you like the knife! The Swick deserves more attention in my opinion. I always tell people to give it a try! :)

I completely agree. I don't know why I overlooked this one for so long. The Swick is a classic spyderco "form follows function" design!
I love mine, though I do prefer the wharncliffe blade of the 3 because most of my folders (Which I always have at least one of when I have my Swick) have leaf shaped blades already. I also find that rope stays on the cutting edge better with the wharnie, especially with the blade angle when gripping the knife. Here's hoping we get a SE Hawkbill Swick to add to the family...I'll definitely have to grab one of those.
That's what I call LIFE ! I envy you Lance ! Glad you still carry the Pac.It's a great knife.I should order some Halpern scales for my Swick3 also.
Superb photos as usual.

Great shots! Looks like you have a handle on the fishing scene around there. I hope to be fishing here on the panhandle of FL soon. I just ordered a salt D'fly2 and I have a kydex neck sheath for my other Dfly's so I assume the salt model will fit. My son has the pacific salt. I don't know right now what else I might get. Maybe the Swick. I can see how holding it and still having both hands usable would be great. I always worried about poking myself in the chest when sheathing a fixed blade neck knife. Just be careful I guess.
Hi Jack, like I said in your other thread, I think you are pretty well equipped with the dfly and the Dyad. I would definitely recommend the Swick to anyone who wants a small, handy and ergonomic little fixed blade...whether you're fishing or not.
As far as carrying the Swick, I choose to neck carry on my kayak because anything on my waist tends to get in the way of my pedaling movement. If I were fishing from shore or regular boat I would probably just use the g-clip that comes with the sheath and wear it on my waist/belt.
Ah, that's the Hobie with the foot paddles/flippers? Nice setup all around! We almost bought one of those a few years ago (also bought a Spyderco Caspian Salt for it, but ended up selling it because I never pulled the trigger on the Hobie).

You, sir, are a true spydie fan. You bought a spyderco specifically to use on a boat that you didn't own and never bought! I love it!! I'm not making fun of you...I'm proud of you!! Sounds like something I would do. Haha  :D
Edit: and yes, the Hobie is awesome. Their pedal system has gotten better and better and there is nothing better for fishing. You might want to revisit the thought of getting one.
