Native 5 G-10 Comparison Pictures

#1

Post by ncrockclimb »

I have pretty much decided that my next Spyderco will be a Native 5 G-10. However, before I pull the trigger, I would like to see a comparison pic of a Native 5 G-10 and a Delica 4. If one of you has both knives and would be willing to post some pics, I would be really grateful.

Also, I have been looking around for this knife online. Almost every site lists it as "not in stock" or "backordered." This knife is listed in the 2015 catalog, so I am pretty sure that it is not discontinued. Does anyone have any insight as to why it is so hard to find? Is it that popular?

Thanks for your help!

I'm sure there will be more on the way, but who knows when that will be. In the meantime, I'd recommend picking up the LW Native 5. There are a couple in stock at Howes right now for a pretty good price.

Perhaps because the last couple of sprint runs of Native 5's have been the 2013 Forum knife and the CF S110v Native 5 and the new LtWt version has recently come out as well? Or, maybe production at Spyderco has stopped while they have dealt with their expansion? If it is within your budget I would just go for the CF S110v version......can't go wrong with that one.......or maybe the fluted Ti if you want something more blingy.

I am also waiting for the S110v LtWt version to arrive......which may also be cutting down on any regular production Native 5's being produced right now if they are gearing up to release this one.
Estne Spyderco in toga, an solum tibi libet me videre?

Thanks for the replies! I have a quick ergonomic question about the grip; do you find your self using the front-most choil or do you grip only on the g-10? If you only use the g-10, do you get all four fingers on the grip or only 3?

Hi NCRC, I actually use both techniques depending on the level of control vs strength I need in cutting something. To me and several others here (ahem, Roman!), the N5 just melts into the hand, and that's not something I can easily say happens with the Delica. And the N5 does it in multiple grip positions, while the Delica (to me at least, YMMV) the grip is pretty much limited to one main position given the choil-less handle layout.

I like the Delica very much and understand why it's a mainstay of the Spyderco line, but as I've said similarly about the Caly 3.5, the Native 5 is just a more evolved knife - it's better quality (even the lightweight one), stouter and sports a nicer backlock. Here's some pics I took of the Native 5 G10 vs lightweight versions in this thread, and it's pretty easy to find some of my other Native 5 pics on this forum to show you some of the exciting possibilities available with this great model. But, as others always say, get one of each! Cheers, Radioactive :)

Like many around here I have literally lost count of how many Spydercos I have acquired, but the Native 5 G10 has become my all-time favorite. If a person likes a back/mid lock, there is little if anything to complain about. The low profile when closed, excellent blade shape, sturdiness & ergos make a pleasure to carry & use. I traded a NIB P2 for a NIB N5 and feel I made out!

I have a N5 LW/S35VN and a N5 CF/S110V. The LW is 1.2 oz lighter than the G10 version, much less expensive, and readily available. I don't see a benefit to the G10 version. (All the "IT'S STRONGER!" people who use their N5s to chop down redwood trees, feel free to chime in here.)

I never use the 50/50 choil, and I can easily get all 4 fingers on it. But I have small hands. (I know, I'm supposed to claim to have King Kong hands like everyone else.)

I prefer the texture and feel of the G10 version, but I do love the LW Native 5 as well.

I use the finger choil when I grip the knife.... It's comfortable... I don't feel like I have a good grip on the knife if I don't hold it in that position....

I like the liners, texture & rigidness. It's the same feeling between the FRN & G10 Delica. The G10 eliminates some of the "flex". That doesn't take anything away from the lightweight Native, just preference. I like them both.

That is a mighty fine knife, by the way. I love the fluting pattern on those.

My line of credit thanks God that I haven't acquired a taste for fluted patterns yet :o
