Swappability questions about the UKPK

#1

Post by Mr. Shawn »

Are the handles and blades of the FFG versions swappable with the earlier HG versions?

Does the SFO sell the forked backsprings separately? I would like to replace the original backspring in an earlier UKPK version.

Thank you!

I think that would be pretty sweet, but I think the answers are no.

I know the SFO doesn't sell the forked back spring. Also, I think I heard that the blade needs different geometry to work with the forked backspring. Please let me know if you find that isn't true!

One additional problem might be the varying blade thickness.
If I can believe my caliper, the HG has 2.5 mm and the FFG 2.0 mm thickness.

I guess you could swap the blade and the backspring if you're trying to get certain scales on a knife, but I'm not sure that's what you're trying to do.

To clarify the reason for my first question, I am interested in swapping the scales of a gray HG model with those of a FG model, so that the FG model has gray scales and the forked backspring.

Thank you for the feedback. I have emailed customer service and will provide an update.

I wasn't aware of any of the FFG models having scales available in anything but black. Can you see the split in the lock bar when the blade is closed?

Hi Donut. Sorry for the confusion. My FFG model does have black scales and the forked backspring. I just want to mod the FFG model to have gray scales.

BTW, Spyderco customer service replied to my inquiry. Since the products have slightly rolling changes, there is no way to guarantee the swappability of the scales and blades of the FG model with those of the HG model. Plus, any damage from disassembly would void the warranty.

And, the forked backsprings are not sold separately, so it looks like you must buy an entire FG model to get an extra forked backspring. ;)
