For a user I would choose the Dyad for sure. If that one was made of lc200n I would own a couple for fishing.

I would get the Dyad if I had to choose between those two.

I really like the Dyad, but not enough to pay $140. It would make a great office knife, especially since it looks like a funky Case rather than a weapon.

The lava just looks like an ergonomic nightmare.
I carry a serrated Robin2 at work, a Cara Cara Rescue 2 in the glove box, and a ZDP Dragonfly or Junior everywhere else. My PM2 sits on a shelf with a small assortment of Kershaws.
Waiting patiently for the Native 5 lightweight and the Lil' Temperance 2.

Ugh. Tough call. I would probably swing for the Dyad, but only by a small margin. Two blades vs. one...

Of the two I'd probably get the Dyad personally, just because I've never even handled one and have always been curious. I like the Lava too but there's only 2 options so..

This couldn't be further from the truth...in reverse grip it's not bad, but in normal grip it is VERY comfortable to hold. Extremely ergonomical design, despite the unusual shape.

That said I'd like to buy a Dyad sprint at some point...the only reason I don't have one is that there's always been a few other models higher on my priority list. My vote is to get both, but as that's kind of a cop out I'd break it down like this. If you like larger knives or serrated knives I'd get the Dyad. It's a little thick but not bad (I've handled one before and almost bought it but the price was too high at my local store), but if you're more attracted to smaller knives or want a smaller knife that can ride in your watch pocket to augment a larger knife, the Lava is your best bet. You really can't go wrong either way...buy whichever you'll get more use out of.

I have the Dyad. It is a great knife, or I should say knives.
By your Member ID, you have twin boys. The Dyad can represent you boys, twins blades. :) .
They there is more cutting edge and your getting two great blades.
But it does not have a clip or lanyard hole, so it is a strickly a pocket carry.
My sprint run Dyad is one I carry mostly.

The grey G10 Dyad sprint does have a clip.

Dyad for me. I don't have one but it is what I would choose out of the 2 options. I've always been curious ...

The Lava is per inch the most ergonomic knife I've ever held. It's a dream. Problem is (IMHO) the blade shape/length makes for a great light-duty cutter but it has to be very sharp since it has so much belly and a deep choil.

As a "knife" the Dyad seems a much better performer; you have 2 blades to thrash on between sharpenings. As a great carry tool that doesn't need to attack a cardboard factory the Lava is a fantastic little tool.

Here is a pic of mine that's been wharnified by Brad S a couple/few years ago. I own all but the Police in this pic (Brad's...he has better photo skillz :)).

My bad, I missed that. I thought he was referring to the blue/gray smaller sprint run. The blades and size of knife more comparable.

I do have both sprint runs of the Dyad. I do like my large Dyad too, but that is a lot larger and heavier then the Lava.
I only carry the larger when I know it is going to be in use, or likely in use.

^^^^ Man I wish I had friends like that ;). Beautiful knives Blerv, I love the Lava mod!

I agree with 3rdgenrigger's post above word for word. The Lava just rocks in the hand and may be one of the most ergonomic Spydies ever made. I don't have a Dyad yet, but it also intrigues me, especially as prices continue to come down on it. An interesting choice this time, no clear winner or loser, so you should just get both! Cheers, Radioactive :)

That's why I said if he doesn't mind thicker, larger, and heavier knives to grab the Dyad. The Lava is a great watch pocket carry knife to augment a larger knife though, and by way of shape and ergonomics makes cardboard boxes tremble in fear (And it's by far the more sheeple friendly of the two). They're such different knives that it all comes down to whatever will most satisfy the philosophy of use the OP has the most use for. I've held both, own the Lava, and intend to add the G10 Dyad sprint to my collection at some point if I can because I very much like both.

I like your rationale. Hopefully my wife will buy it..."honey, each blade represents a boy and they are held together by strong G10 which represents you, that's the only reason I bought it!"

Lava, Lava, Lava....as others have stated , it locks into your hand just as it was designed to do. Chad Banos really know how to design a comfortable knife. The Dyads have never really thrilled me, just too much like the knives I had growing up prior to Spyderco. I have handled and played with them...they're just not for me.
