Para 2 Action ?

#1

Post by Strong-Dog »

So I got a Para 2 in 204p today, and when the blade gets close to locking up it all of a sudden becomes incredibly stiff. It's impossible to flip open. I used to have an M390 Para, and this exact same thing occurred. I used to own a normal Para, everything was fine. My other 204p Para that came today also does not suffer from this. Anyone else have this problem?

When people talk to me, I tend to focus on all the wrong details, my wife hates it. So why did you get two separate shipments of the 204P Para2?

Call me a dishonest snake, but I got two of the 204p Paras as I missed out the first time.

I just got my KW exclusive Para 2 today and the action is stiff. This is the first Para 2 that I received that didn't open and close buttery smooth. I'm thinking about sending it in for warranty repair. These knives should flip in and out easily with little effort.

Just use it. Clean it. And oil it accordingly.
Had some tight, and some loose, but they all end up functioning smoothly after minimal use.

Do people not realize that the pivot can be adjusted extremely easily?

It should ease up with use. If not, sell it to someone unlucky enough to not have gotten one at the same price you paid.

It's not a huge deal, but after knowing what these Paras can be, to have one that can't even flip out is disappointing. It's odd, it only becomes super tight right before it locks up. If I middle finger flick the knife, it stops right at that point. Very odd, as my M390 was the exact same way.

If it was mine I would disassemble it, check it over, clean, reassemble. Try out different tensions on the screws near the pivot. That's what I would do.

Did you try adjusting the pivot?

Clean it, lube it, adjust the pivot and give it time to break in. My para2 that I have been EDCing for a long time is like glass. I think it was smooth when I got it but it just keeps getting smother. The pivot does need periodic adjustment though.

An ideal Para and everything in the world is right, a Para that doesnt free swing, have play, or/and not have good action and the whole thing is ruined. Out of all the Paras I've ever had, Ive had two that was troublesome upon getting them. One of the blues I've had and one of my greens. Luckily for me, I was able to work it out. Took them apart, polished the insides, tweak all the screws over and over and over and over, flick it, test for play, repeat...Once I reached the sweet spot, I applied a miniscule amount of blue loctite and tweak it back to the sweet spot which in itself took awhile.

I tried messing with the pivot, it did help but still not where I want it to be. I'm hesitant to take it apart, as the last Para I did that to got so sticky sometimes I would literally have to use all my force to disengage it. I will carry it and keep opening and closing it, after all no knife is perfect I guess. Just a little odd

Since you're hesitant to open it, maybe use a toothbrush and dishsoap on the pivot lock area, brush that sucker then rinse it with running hot water. Once nice and clean, use canned air or a hair dryer to dry the entire pivot...Then spray the pivot with WD40...Blow all the excess off with canned air...Then add lube direct to the pivot. Once all that's done, adjust the pivot and stop pin screws to your liking.

If that doesnt work, try my first post.

Thank you, will try these suggestions tomorrow. Do you polish the insides with Flitz? Or something else like a strop or ceramics. I tried to polish the other one I took apart with flitz, and without spending hours I don't know how I could get a good polish.

I dont go over the top, I just Flitz the blade tang, washers, liners as best I can. The washers, I've stropped a few with green compound. Usually just Flitz.
