I have no trouble sharpening M4 on the 302M stone, seems to me to be about as easy as any other. Maybe I just don't pay enough attention?

A properly profiled CPM-M4 knife and the Sharpmaker are a match made in heaven.

I have a few knives with M4(including the Gayle Bradley and Air). I am fairly hard on my EDC knives and my M4 knives have proven to be the easiest to maintain on the Sharpmaker.

I have never had to reprofile M4. That may be a different subject.

Although M4 takes a little while, it's not tricky at all.

I've found touch ups on M4 to be a breeze with the brown rods.

Hi Mr swigert!

As with any High Carbide Steel + a SharpMaker, your patience while sharpening will be highly rewarded.

It will come. Keep reading and keep practicing. I don't have any m4 right now but when I did, I didn't find it overly difficult to sharpen. It takes a very nice edge too...especially on the GB!

I find M4 a breeze to sharpen compared to other steels with around the same edge retention (in my use). You should be fine! Put a microbevel on it and you should be set for a long time

Since M4 is so tough, I like to have a shallower angle for increased cutting performance. But good luck reprofiling an M4 blade with a sharpmaker, so 40 degrees should be fine.

I really don't find M4 to be any more difficult to sharpen than S30V. YMMV.
