Budget line love?
Where is the love for them? They are excellent, despite the obvious reasons that make them "Budget" knives. Here on the forums, it seems nobody really talks about them, which makes me think there is a lack of appreciation for them. What the **** guys?

Hey O.G.,
I, for one, love the budget line knives!
My modded Tenacious is one of my favorite edc's.
I don't think there's a better value out there.
Even with the bug line, you get a functional and useful tool, for close to nothing.

Don

Well, they're big performers.Evil D wrote:Sorry, not for me. Even aside from being a steel snob, I just don't care for the looks of them. I thought about one day getting a Resilience for food prep though since the blade is so big, which I may still do someday.

Well, a Honda Civic gets awesome gas mileage, but it can't outrun a FerrariOfficer Gigglez wrote:Well, they're big performers.
What do you want out of your knife? If you're looking for cheap transportation, then go with the Civic. If you wanna be blown away every time you step into the gas pedal, go with the Ferrari.

Had a persistance, lost it, haven't replaced it.
The transition of the edge to handle just doesn't work for me. The steel is a little too soft for my usages.
I actually consider many of the Spyderco models in the $60 - $150 to be of a high "value", and not necessarily in my budget to purchase one every month. Last year I bought one Military, this year I bought one para-militay 2. You get my point. When the knife exceeds $150 I loose enjoyment in using it, and I'm not a collector. That's just me.

Doesn't work for me. If you're on a budget and need a great bang for the buck tool, you won't go wrong with the budget line.

Considering that most here are knife enthusiasts and "materials snobs" in one way or another, the fact that there have been over 200 threads devoted to the budget line knives indicates more love for them than I would have expected.

It's actually my second Spydie and it's the one that got me hooked...now though, I have a bunch of hobby level $100+ knives with uber steels etc. I gotta put my focus on those fancy shmancy models or else what's the point of having them? I'm over here begging Sal for K390 "God steel" knives and for what? So I can have them in a box so I can use my 8cr Tenacious? It's great but if you're a knife nut, it takes a back seat.

Hey guys,

Maybe it's because I modded my Tenacious, and personalized it with green micarta scales,(one of my favorite handle materials and colors), or maybe it's because the ergos fit my hand perfectly, but I enjoy this knife as much as my Southard or d2 Military.
Sure, I like the premium steels just like you guys, but I'm no steel snob either.
This knife works just as well as knives that cost three or four times as much.
I've purchased around twenty Spydercos since I got my Tenacious, and I still think it's a fantastic worker and performer.
Don't let its budget line status take away from its usefulness and functionality.

This. And your scales are pretty close to being some of the best I've seen. You get them from Cuscadi? And I personally would have had the blade stone washed as well, to go with the weathered and worn look the Micarta has.sharpguitarist wrote:Hey guys,

All of the above I guess. I was namely referring to the 8Cr ones, but budgets are subjective, which is to say, what is considered to be a budge blade to some may be a gold standard for others.Blerv wrote:Are you referring to the Byrds, 8Cr Spydies, or FRN Spydercos?

I've held the Tenacious. It's just a little cumbersome in operation and design compared to say a Manix2 or Para2. For half or a third the price that makes perfect sense though.
I love the 100% cutting edge. Definitely one I would gift as a rugged user tool. In most cases I would opt to go FRN and spend that side of the budget on a Seki or Golden Spydie. It's a bit more but also more refined.

That's fair. But I don't think that those who disregard such a great line of blades just because they're steel snobs is. But you know, YMMV.jmh58 wrote:Handled a b on b Tenacious for like 10 min.. Drove the sales person nuts. Just did not feel good in the hand.. Still in the store.. JMO!! John

I would absolutely love a tenacious in 52100. Been asking for that for some time.
