Do I own a Spyderco?

#1

Post by chvor »

Hello Spyderco Forum,

recently i've purchased my first Spyderco.

Paramilitary 2, S30V steel, digicamo

I like the knife, there is no blade play, after i've cleaned it a bit with WD40 its opening/closing very nice. It's perfectly centered.

Because i've bought it from a guy and not a legitimate store i have my doubts if this is a genuine Spyderco knife.

As i said this is my 1st Spyderco so i can't compare it with another one.

Could someone take a look at the pictures and tell me if I own a Spyderco?

Thanks in advance

I'm not a specialist, and don't own the Paramilitary, but the laser engraving, the overall quality and the box, make me feel it's a genuine one.
And if I re-centered my Spydie collection around the Native (love it !), this Paramilitary, with digicamo handles, attract me for long time !

Great first Spydie my friend ! :)

Thank you! :spyder: I'm just scared after seeing this http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-Shi ... 00556.html.

This seems way to close to mine for me to find the difference.

Will very much appreciate a Spyderco employees opinion on this one

For sure you need a more specialist. But it seems to me that on the cheap replica, the smallest screws (the 2 on top of the knife) have the same screw thread (not sure of the traduction, i mean the size of the screwdriver needed) than the big one (which hold the blade) and their edge seems thinner than on the genuine one (yours ;) ) . Well, not very sure, but in a building process, it would save money to screw all of the screws with the same tool ...
Have a look on your pics and the fake ones and tell me what you feel about it. Perhaps I'm not right ...

PS : sorry for my english, when it comes too technical, I miss more vocabulary !

There is really some difference on the screw size.

Well, the more I look at the pics, the more I feel that, for sure !
Anyway, welcome on board ! Hope for you it's a genuine one, and hope for you it won't be the unique one in your future collection !

I own (and have owned) a few Para 2s and it does appear authentic to my eye.

Why are you uncertain about your knife, whether it's original Spyderco or not? Where did you buy it?
Don't be a ball of nerves, the Para-Military 2 shown on the pictures looks legit. Have fun with it!

One quick giveaway is the 3 bolts holding the clip. The true are like yours, with the head shape almost flat, or we could say close to the shapw of an " ==) " while the fake use bolt with a more rounded version. More like a ==D .
Just so you know ;)

Looks just like mine which I guarantee is real (was from the 2012 factory sale) except for the digicam scales. I say it's real.

I'm no expert but I do own a couple PM2's.

It looks pretty legit to me. I assume that it did not come with the clip in the tip up, left hand configuration.
