Realistic dream knives?
Realistic dream knives?
We've seen a lot of dream knife threads, but what about the very doable non over the top dream combos? I'm all about the dream exotic steels and such but I'd be tickled to death with a DLC Yojimbo 2, or a standard production FFG Manix 2 in S30V (especially if DLC'ed). That's not too much to ask is it? :D

In all honesty a black Yo2 seems like a no brainer. I can't think of another knife that would be better suited to the DLC treatment and that has big enough of a fan base to warrant adding a second model. I'm glad to see the Szabo got the DLC treatment and now I have to decide which one to get. But I was surprised that the Szabo (black) was released so soon after the release of the original.
Take my money Spyderco! Gimme a DLC Yo2!

I would really like an orange (or any color really) FRN Catcherman H1 with satin blade and adjustable pivot. I know the molds are still around from the USN exclusive.
Also.... I would really love to see the Captain make a comeback. Anyone else feel this way?

A Southard flipper with a thinner one-piece Ti handle.

Yeah maybe I missed something but I don't recall the Szabo being such a hot seller that it was perpetually sold out for the first year of production. I always assumed DLC versions were granted to hot sellers..Liquid Cobra wrote:In all honesty a black Yo2 seems like a no brainer. 2013 Forum Native probably as close as possible for one of my dream knives became true, others are too far from mainstream. But I still hope for clipless Kopa and bolstered Caly3 with smooth giraffe bone scales
Not my dream, but I certainly will buy both, if they will be made in Golden. Keeping original color of scales will be a huge plus.twinboysdad wrote:Lil Temp brought back in Leaf and Rhino with a WIRE clip.
Are you talking about more wear resistant steel? I would in, if scales will be black.Blerv wrote:A Manix2 LW sprint...anything.

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

Not necessarily, just variation. BD1 is perfectly fine but I have so many VG10 knives that another medium carbon/high chrome one isn't as appealing. Even 1095 would be fun if not 52100, M4, O-1, etc. Anything odd really in a budget platform :) .bh49 wrote:Are you talking about more wear resistant steel? I would in, if scales will be black.

Most of the dreams, at least the important ones have turned into reality already. I feel guilty in further dreaming but I suppose like any true steel junky it doesn't stop me from "what if-ing?" up new combos. Especially when I see new steels that get my attention like 4V.
CPM M4, 4V, 3V, Cruwear/CPM Cruwear in a full size, heavy lock back such as the old Manix or Chinook maybe updated a bit lock wise are still dream knives to me even if I was forced to belt carry it. The Manix in particular was one of my all time favorite knives ever. In a suitable steel that is very tough and very wear resistant I could have the proverbial one knife for life knife.
The fact that the Cruwear millie is that already, and the super blue endura or stretch is pretty darn close is besides the point.
The heart wants what it wants after all. The Tuff, though a Jewel of a hard use knife is too unconventional looking and feeling for me. I love the idea much more than the knife itself. The Ti Chaparral design and execution is promising if scaled up and given a more "mastiff" like steel.
I knew what high performing S110V was thanks to a Mr. Phil Wilson custom so it is no secret but I have to admit I was a bit shocked by the K390 's performance and feeling while in use. I would prefer a little more toughness for a dream knife steel, which the above steels provide but the trade off in performance over K390 seems huge .
We'll see hoe 4V does especially as it seems designed for work at hardness at and above rc 60 unlike 3V. Better wear too, and great toughness. Still, that sounds like CPM M4 at rc 64-65.
We'll see. It is nice knowing I can use one of several off the shelf Spyderco's for the kind of performance, toughness and reliability that was only the stuff of dreams 3 years ago.
Now, where to go next?
:)
