Decisions, decisions...
I'll explain the situation first.
I have a choice between two knives - a Techno and a Caly 3.5.
I can only pick one. I also happen to be living in Australia where folders are quite expensive and hard to come by. The one I choose will be with me for a long long time.
I realize they're two completely different knives but I only have these 2 to choose from at the moment. I like everything about both knives, locks, materials, aesthetics, ergonomics etc.
It basically comes down to - the techno is cooler while the Caly is nicer and which one would last longer with light-medium urban edc use.
Help me pick? Which one would you choose as a long term one and only?

Ended up going with the Caly.
- The Caly is quite small and slim for it's size.
- Time tested lockback (although the framelock would've lasted a very long time regardless)
- Steel edge retention on VG-10 is plenty enough for light-medium duty urban edc, especially since it's so easy to maintain/sharpen.
- I have a feeling I'll miss a larger blade with the Techno.
- The Caly looks amazing.

I've got both, and I'd vote Caly if you could only have one. I find the longer blade and shape of the handle an all-around better combination. Though the Techno is a tiny tank. Good choice!

I've got a Victorinox Signature around my neck for that. :)Pockets wrote:My vote would have been for the Caly. See if you can get a Ladybug/Manbug as well, if you can afford it. That way, you have a large, general purpose knife as well as one to use around non knife people.
Seems like I made the right choice. Thanks guys.
it is a good choice. The knife has fantastic ergos, looks good and an excellent slicer. VG10 is a very good steel. I carried Caly3 for about 5 years and didn't see much wear on the blade. Also I EDC C83 Persian with VG10 blade for about seven years and you can see some wear on the blade, but most of it due to my experimentation in sharpening and reprofiling.Parkourdude wrote:Ended up going with the Caly.
IMHO Caly3/Caly3.5 are one of the best production knives for every day carry.

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

I would opt for the Caly. I don't know what you consider hard use, but I have cut miles of cardboard with my ZDP Caly 3, and I have no doubt that the 3.5 can take anything that the 3 takes, with any difference maybe being a slightly weaker tip since it's longer. As long as you don't go stabbing things and trying to split wood with it, you should be totally fine in an "urban EDC" environment. I think you will enjoy it much more than the Techno, especially when it comes to slicing. This comparison is like comparing a sports car to a pickup truck.

The Caly3 has the best ergonomics of all my knives. I don't own a Techno but I want one really bad. I vote Caly :)
