Where did I see a screw-together Salt?

#1

Post by peacefuljeffrey »

I like the idea of the Salt knife, which to me is like essentially a seaworthy Delica.

I am a guy who has to have screw-together construction in my knives, though.
Long have I rued the fact that the Salts were riveted. But very recently I could swear that I saw both black and yellow handled Salts with what were clearly torx screws in their handles.

Am I simply remembering a dream? Or did I really see this? Because if I did, I'll have to get a couple.

We would rather be the knife in your pocket, because is "works" better, than the knife in your showcase, because it "looks" better.

The Salt folders switched to screw construction late 2012, IIRC.

I understand what you mean about having screws, but you know, I actually don't think
about it that much. I knowthat they can be taken apart and cleaned or modded, but it
wouldn't prevent me from getting a knife that I really wanted.

Bill1170 said late 2012, so maybe you could find some older ones, or call a store and ask
if they have any screw salts. I might word it a little different though.

Interesting. So, just two screws, and the blade and lockbar come right out? Is the handle still one molded piece?

I wonder if I could talk Sal into making a sprint run of Delica 3's built like that...

Yeah, looks like two screws and the internals come out, but the handle is solid the rest of the way.

That's good to know. When I heard they went to the screw together construction, I was worried that they meant like the 4th generation Delicas and Enduras.

Are the rest of the handle one piece? I don't think I've ever seen that or think it is possible to construct, but I could be wrong.

The Salt folders use the molds from the Gen3 Delica/Endura, I believe. Those were linerless FRN, and yes, both scales are part of one molded piece with an integral back spacer. It is a clever design, in my opinion.

My FRN Dragonfly is screwed together but still the FRN part is one piece. It doesn't bother me that it is, as long as there is the ability of the user to adjust blade tension and remove parts for cleaning/maintenance.

The picture I saw might have been of a Dragonfly Salt.
I specifically remember several screws on the back side of a yellow FRN handle.
