I started with other knife companies and will always look at other brands but have a strong preference got a spyderco. I'm also always recommending them to my friends when asked, i can tell them why buy spyderco over other brands without having to be negative about other companies. Spyderco don't talk bad about others in order to promote themselves
-Ergos and performance above all else
-The company listens to concerns of customers
-Sal is very active on forums helping people
-spyderco is a very honest company
-customer Service
-innovative
-awesome steels to choose from
Can't think if anything at the moment but wanted to pint out few reasons why to choose spyderco
why is spyderco so great

- IMHO fit and finish at the price is unsurpassable!
- Sal is just a great guy
- the Spyderco people are knife knuts just as much as their customers
- after a time, you learn to appreciate the design and ergos of the knives, even if you didn't dig them at first (e.g. in the Millie)
- not a single one of all special forces units around the world uses Spyderco knives (if you know what I mean)

I too have been a purchaser of knives from many companies in my short years and I can say with complete confidence that:
* Spyderco has the largest variety of knives with the widest array of blade steels and locks and handles of anyone on this earth *
* Their founder and employees are as much knife nuts as the forum members are (as stated above by obeicht) *
* Dedication, Commitment, Integrity are all adjectives that describe the company and their outlook on the industry *
* They have an ear to the ground, listening to what is really driving the end users (knife lovers) *
* The addiction they create with their products is much safer (unless you cut yourself) for your health than many other vices we could all have *

Most obviously the knives are great. Great designs, great ergos, great materials, great quality, etc. Originally found the Spydie Hole a bit odd looking... now love it and find thumb studs a bit pedestrian looking and less functional than the Spydie Hole.
But the real thing that turned Spyderco into my favorite brand was learning about the company itself. The fact that it's a family business run by Sal, his wife and his son. The fact that Sal interacts with his customers on the forums and his personal philosophy about marketing his company by its own merit as opposed to running other stuff down (shiny footprints). So while I dig the products (and did before I knew anything about the Glessers), it was family aspect of the company that converted me into a full fledged fan and won my loyalty.

Apparently, arachnophobia is not a condition from which I suffer.... :spyder:
