If you were stuck with only one knife

#1

Post by Doc Dan »

Hi folks,

If you were stuck with only one knife, what would it be? I thought about a Benchmade D2 Nitrous, a Benchmade Mini-Griptillian, a Spyderco Endura, a Spyderco Para-Military, but have been thinking of my Becker Knife and Tool (Kabar) Necker with 1095 CV/Carbon V/50100B steel. It could take the place of a folding knife, be used as a spear, used as a fixed blade, used as a skinning knife, used as an all purpose knife.
What do ya'll think?

If I could Have only 'one knife' I'd have to chose a fixed blade like the: EK Bowie, Chris Reeve 7" Green Beret, or a Randall Model 14 Attack.

If only one folder: M4 Manix2 or XHP Military.

I guess it would depend on where I was stuck. If I was stranded away from civilization, I think I would choose a nice fixed blade like a Temp2. If I was stranded almost anywhere else I would probably opt for my Para2.

I assume that would also I would have access to other tools as needed so that I don't have to use my knife as a substitute for a screwdriver, pry bar, hatchet, etc.

If I had to be stuck with one knife, i would want it to be a sheepsfoot blade. Yes, I'm at work and, yes, I'm bored.

Enzo Trapper FFG D2, a puukko, or a handled Mule if it was the "wilderness."
One :spyder: or another most other places, except in places like London where there are strict rules.

My thought of questions like this are that you only have ONE choice,
not if this or if that, that defeats the question in a way. Depends on
the questions I guess. I picture only having one for all occasions,
meaning you might want it concealed (folder), lighter for quick and
long distance moving, big enough for major cutting, and one that
does anything thing that you need, self defense included.

The Military.

Thanks for all the replies. BAL, I had not thought of the Military, for some reason. I will give it a look. I am still leaning toward the Becker Necker but I do love the convenience of a folding knife.

Personally, I wouldn't want to be "stuck" with any knife. It just sounds too painful!

I'd go with the original temperance model I prefer the sealed tang so I don't have to worry about it rusting and I can clean it easy great for food and all other task not to mention the 4mm blade stock and ease of sharpening vg10

I'll put my vote for Team Stretch FRN :)

If society was getting more restrictive and sissy I would probably take my Lava Wharnie (sub 2").

If i could only have one folder, it would probably be a standard Military or standard Para 2. If i have to only choose one knife to own ever it would be a fixed blade of some sort.

If I was stuck with only one knife, it would probably be the Military. A fixed blade would probably be a smarter choice for SHTF type situations, especially if wilderness life was a consideration. I don't think the Military would fall short for most tasks, but for fixed blades it would be a Perrin Bowie.

I'll take a stout machete over a hatchet. You ever try clearing brush with a hatchet? I can baton a tree down with a machete.

I don't like getting stuck with any of them. Sliced, nicked, stabbed or chopped either.
...I have no knives I keep in a safe but there are one or two that don't leave the house...
