Has anyone here gotten a chance to work with the new Rescue 93mm? I would love to hear some comments on it.

zenmic,
Only used it for one weekend so far. It's too large for me to comfortably carry at work. The SE section worked great on boxes. I also used it on trimming asphalt shingles, which it did but there was buildup in the serrations that slowed it down. PE the next time. The control tip is an interesting feature, I only played with it on newspaper but it was very precise. Overall, so far so good but it needs many more miles on it.

zenmic,

During the weekend we were out camping with a group from the company that I work for. We went fishing and catched about 12 trouts. I helped cleaning them because the only knifes we had were my Blue Rescue and my Military.

The Military of course does a much better job, but the Rescue wasn't to bad either. You will really notice that it's hard to pinch through something (which is how it was designed). Once you're through, it works great on cutting of the head of the fish and slicing open the belly.

But what it did perfectly was slicing bread. It just glides through it.

But of course, that's not what it was designed for. And honestly, I bought it to sit in my car or my backpak when I'm camping to be there when I need it, and hopefully that moment doesn't come.

The knife itself is very well designed, the 25% plain part of the blade is very usefull, and the VG-10 was easy to touch up with the sharpmaker after the trip. The lock is solid, and the grip is very good. But compared to the military, the handles could have been a bit longer.
About Zytel/FRN, I honestly don't like it at all, it looks and feels to much like plastic to me, but it's probably the best for this sort of knife. I won't mind seeing a G-10 rescue...

Hi Ted,
That's a wonderful picture you got there. Hope the two of you see a lot of life together.

Have a nice day,
Kaizer.

I just got mine today and I absolutely love it!! It was a little awkward looking to me when I first took it out of the box, but I got over it once I opened it up and examined it further. The control tip is a feature that I'm sure will be used often, and the enlarged Hole is very comfortable for me. I plan on carrying this one for EDC everyday, for both work and non-work in a horizontal belt sheath. You never know when you may need it.

I have been buying and carrying Spydercos since the early 80's, and the Rescue 93mm is my new EDC, and I got one for my brother, who is an Army medic. The notch for the forefinger is a wonderful addition for controlling the tip for delicate work. The large hole is also to my liking. I have always liked the sheepsfoot blade, having obtained a Mariner back when they first came out. How could it be better? G10 handle maybe?

Just got mine in a trade Saturday and used it to cut a belt in a flipped over car this afternoon. Overall a useful knife and cool color. Haven't gotten to play around with the "control tip" yet but it seems like a useful feature. The larger opening hole is a nice touch too. I had it in my pocket the rest of the afternoon under turnout pants and it did not rust a bit even with all that sweat. My old ATS-55 Rescue Jr used to rust quickly under those conditions. I like the VG-10 steel a lot better. Good job Spyderco.

But there is someone among us who seems to know and like a lot the Rescue, his name is Dan McCarthy and he has some interesting ideas concernig this particular subject: (Click here for the topic)
