Soon to be discontinued?!?

#1

Post by RalphNJ »

I bought the delica and got bitten by the spydie bug! I have since picked up the endura with my eye on the native, caly 3.5, Marnix, and paramilitary when it come back around. I hope to get em all, but I figure if anything is on its way into the discontinued Netherlands it should get picked up first. Anyone know if/which models are soon to be discontinued?

Yup I agree, I'm waiting to see the Disco list in case there's something I 'need' to pickup right quick.
Of the ones you listed I'm not sure if any would get the axe, those are all popular. I'd guess the Paramilitary and Manix would be safest but I would assume the Native & Caly aren't going anywhere, but I don't see the sales numbers so who knows. Again they're all popular they're probably sticking around.

I would be shocked if any of those were discontinued any time in the near future, unless they were replaced with an upgrade. All of them are upgrades already, I think.

they are all pretty much staples/classics in the spyderco line, spyderco won't discontinue any of then, only come only come out with next gen models. Possibly the Caly but I wouldn't get too worried.

Given the number of models Spyderco is offering right now I'm sure there will be a "retirement" list and, based on past years, I expect it will be out in a couple weeks.

I agree, Deacon. It seems like the number of models has exploded over the past couple of years. This is good from a "brand refresh" perspective, but does create some overlap in the product line. And if a product isn't generating an ROI for Sal and Eric, then it would need to go.

If this year is anything like past years, look for closeout pricing on some really good models! I just saw a titanium UKPK on sale yesterday for $109.

Ted,
i believe that Ti UKPK was discontinued last year. And BTW, you can get it for $103 shipped @ Sierra. (You will need coupon code).

Yep, Cutlery Shoppe has updated the listings on many of their knives to inidicate discontinued status. Now to figure out which ones I just can't do without and order while available...

Have to get the small G-10 Persian and Zulu. Maybe a Breeden rescue and Leafstorm. I'm surprised to see the PPT on there. Glad I've got mine!

Yeah, that's what I meant, BH. Once Spyderco announces it's list this year, expect prices to fall on those models as the remaining stock works its way into the discount supply chain.

And I'm jealous, MY Sierra coupon code only gets it down to $109 for me. They obviously like you more than me...

Nooooo... Not the Chokwe :(

It's one of my favorite Spyderco's. I'm not sure I can justify spending the extra cash to get a back-up.

It"s a funny time of year. The discontinued list comes out< so you all of a sudden think
that you better pick up a few that you never have got a chance to, and find out that they
might not be around. And there are several coming out now at the end of the year and
then you think about the new ones that will be soon showing up in the 13 catalog.

Then all of the excitement is slapped in the face by the thought of xmas, year end taxes,
winter settingn in. But how bout that Tuff or Szabo or Ti fluted or Pygmy or.. or.. or..

Tally-Ho's list is about what I see in the e-mail from Knife Center with the headline "26 Newly Announced Closeouts from Spyderco"

Ordered a Chokwe as it was the only one listed "In stock" The others at $99 I liked just said "ships in 3-5 days" I took that to be out of stock. Would have gotten a Breeden otherwise.
