Hello
Probably a stupid question to most of you but I could never understand what makes one RH/LH? Is there a sort of glossary of abbreviations for describing these fine knives?
Thanks,
Bob
I assume my Police P.I.G (see attached picture) is Right Handed?
Correct?
What makes a Spyderco folder Right/Left Handed?

Yes, it is. If it were left handed, the clip would be on the left scale instead of the right and the P.I.G. engraving would be on the right side of the blade instead of the left. Also, since your Police is serrated, the serrations would be beveled on the right side instead of the left.

Access to the Spyderhole for opening will also contribute to a given knives "handed-ness". For instance, I have been carrying my Techno since receiving it, and it is definitly a"right handed" opener. Access to the Spyderhole with the left hand is blocked by the scale, while there is a cut-out on the other side for righties...
Lock bars are universal.
Slip joints are universal.
Benchmades Axis lock is universal.
Spyderco Ball Cage lock is unversal.
Frame lock is a right handed lock.
Liner lock is a right handed lock.
I am not saying that lefties can't open the frame lock or liner lock, but its just a little bit more tricky. The reason why is that you use your right thumb to depress it and will usually have a cut out for your right thumb so you can open the blade up.

True, there are other factors that can make a knife "handed". However, with the exceptions of the original C15 and C19 Terzuolas and the Military, all Spydercos with "handed" locks or other features which made them less than totally hand neutral have been either RH only, favored RH use, or, in the sole case of the Gunting, sent the mixed message of having a left handed lock and RH only carry options. FWIW, the boxes of older models, such as the Mariner and Police, identified the knife as being either right or left handed.
