Blue Manix : 1st Impression

#1

Post by Manix Guy 2 »

My best friend stopped by last night and brought with him the Blue Manix . I never warmed up to the 2nd gen Manix because of all the extra jimping but found the blue linerless version to be a wonderful piece . I hope we will see more of this lighter model , Spyderco hit a home run , very impressed . Regards MG2

Thx for sharing! I'm looking forward to checking one out eventually.

They are talking of different colors with black to come first. I want a sprint with a snobby steel :) .

I got mine yesterday, so I might share my 1st Impression too. It's so light! The translucent handle looks really nice, and it's quite solid. If you squeeze it hard, it does bend a bit, but there's no way for it to break. The build quality on mine is great too - the blade is centered, the grind is perfect, there is no BP (fortunately - it would be impossible to get rid of with the rivet-based design). The scales are well-made, there are no mold/cast artifacts, and the texture also feels nice in hand.

The Bearing Ball Lock works well - it engages with a reassuring click, and it also holds the blade in closed position. The only downside is that it is very difficult to close with one hand - this might be a matter of practice though.

I don't have much experience with the steel - my Manny has not sliced anything just yet, and I did not sharpen it either. It came quite sharp out of the box. Maybe not hair-popping-sharp, but sharp enough to cut paper and stuff.

I would love to see translucent scales on more knives, in other colours too. Green, red, white, purple - these would all be nice. Perhaps on a Delica? Or a Dragonfly?

It is amazingly light and convenient to carry. The translucent blue looks great too.

Other colors would also be nice.
