Delica 4 Question--Is This Normal?

#1

Post by OutOfTheBlue »

I just bought an Orange Delica 4 for my pops, being that today is Father's Day and all.

Anyway, I noticed that the underside of the blade has grooves in it, and I don't recall seeing this on other Delica 4's.

Is this normal? And if not, is it something that warrants sending the knife back for a different one?

Mine has them - just grind marks. I wouldn't worry about it. It's a great knife.

- best wishes, Jazz.

Thanks for the input fellas. I figured it was just manufacturing marks of some sort, and I figured it wouldn't hurt to double-check.

Dad's already been using the knife and it's been a hit. The orange color is great for summer, too. :)

I have 2 Delicas and 2 Enduras. All 4 have those same marks.

I do admit to being curious as to what they are.

I just checked all 6 of my FFG Delica 4s, and they are all smooth, except for the orange one (which looks just like yours). As others have said, nothing to worry about.

The marks could be from grinding but I suspect they come from laser cutting. If you look closely you can see lines in many Spyderholes from the laser process that cut them out of the blank.

I had never noticed them on any of mine until now.
Funny how things like that are.

These marks are not from the lasering process; those are allways pependacular to the surface, and not exactly even. Check the Salt series for good examples (blade, hole), and the liners of the models with recessed liners, like the Para, Milli and Manix2.

I think those mars are from the contour milling process.

My black Delica has those same marks, but I didn't notice them until I read this post and checked. Interestingly, my Dragonfly Salt, which has jimping in that area, has no grooves like the Delica. Maybe knives with jimping have better finishes in that area?

It's a great knife, don't send it back.
