How many Spyderco converts have you made?
I was thinking about all of the friends and family that I have sold on Spyderco over the past few years. I came up with the following:
1. My brother, who has his hunting pals all sold on the Superleaf and Manix 2. He had a zillion assorted and crappy knives that he would use, break and discard prior to Spyderco. He has not broken a Spydie yet.
2. My son, who is 13, and has a Delica, Meerkat, and Salt 1 (also wants about a dozen more other models). He is hard on knives. He has bent the clip back on his Salt, and broken the clip off of his Delica, in addition to using his Delica to saw through a tree limb on a scout campout this past year.
3. My wife, who was a non-knife person before I got her using a Ladybug Salt. Now she also carries a Dragonfly (G-10 scales) in her purse. She is surprised how much use she gets out of them.
4. An instructor at our childrens' karate dojo - he has gotten a Police in G-10 and a Dragonfly in the past 2 months, which is remarkable considering he was a fixed blade, anti-Spyderco guy before I ran into him. He specifically told me he hated them, until I let him play with some of mine.
5. My step-father, who carries a Ladybug Salt and loves it. Perfect for him because he lives on a lake and is an avid fisherman.
6. A friend whose son takes karate with my kids. He is a former army ranger and has had some experience with knives. He is continually amazed at the light weight and solidity of the Spyderco line. His next knife is a Military.
How many have you brought into the fold?

I've given Spyderco's as gifts to about a dozen people. Only know one who for sure bought another.
Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

I'm with David, I have lots of friends into knives however they would all agree they are not as into it as I am. They can appreciate a quality knife, but the fail to differentiate sometimes a quality blade from a flashy (cheap) one. My brother may be the exception. He currently owns 4 spydies (all gifts from me) however, because he has a tight budget for anything in life, he would rather use and abuse his cheap $3 (I'm not even joking) FAKE SOG than any of the Spyderco blades I have purchased him. Not his tenacious, not his delica 4, not his Manix 2, not even the Elmax Mule. He said, "I'm affraid I will mess them up". I have to admit he is hard on knives and tends to put them up wet at the end of the day, but I wish he would really take one for a test drive for a solid week.Evil D wrote:Try as i might...none. Sorry for hijacking your thread mikerestivo.

I'm the Spyder Evangelist here in KC Missouri
Just in the past 14 months I've gotten my boss and the staff attorney who is over here at my work place both ZDP-189 Delica models >> along with a lifelong friend of mine who has joined our staff recently who I'm in the process of lining him up with the blades he needs. All 3 of them are very proud of their newly aquired EDCs too.
My boss and the staff attorney both EDC a green handled ZDP-189 Delica model. Whereas my lifelong friend is currently borrowing my StreetBeat fixed blade Perrin model and we are about to come to terms on a price and he's also wanting a ZDP-189 Delica or Caly 3 to go with it.
I've also got 2 of the women who work here both wanting a small folder because we do open a lot of packages and do a ton of mailing out of the facility and right now I'm working on getting the head counselor lady a pink Native>> she says she loves the color pink and when I showed it to her out of the catalog it was love at first sight .
Yes our workforce is in the process of becoming a "Spyder-Force">> but I'm telling you it's as simple as this>> "Quality Sells itself"

I've gotten just about my whole family (and quite a few of the extended family as well) Spydercos. While none of them share my passion and none have bought any additional Spydercos, I'll attribute their lack of purchasing to the durability of the knives I got them, as they all think just one knife is enough. Little do they know just how wrong they are! :p

My friends all like my spydies but they're just too cheap to buy quality knives. They think a SAK is an expensive knife.

I have not converted anyone yet. It's an expensive hobby over here. 1 USD is about 130 of my currency now. Add to that shipping and clearance charges, I end up paying even more.
My office sells customized SAKs with our logo. Prices are okay. My colleagues, some of them sport various blades. I know that some of them get A Mora knife as part of their care pack as instructed by their government (lucky folk). I see cheap replicas of the worlds best selling knife models being sold above the retail price of some Spyderco knives at shopping malls. Had one of these fail on me and nearly lost a few of my fingers.
I myself am a convert though. I was mainly in to SAKs and CS brand before one of my colleagues showed me a Spyderco and let me handle it for a while. All them Spydies in my sig were bought afterwards. What can I say, I like these blades a lot.

:spyder: Centofante3 (C66PBK3), ParaMilitary2 (C81GPCMO), Endura4 (C10P), GrassHopper (C138P), Military (C36GPCMO), Perrin PPT (C135GP), Squeak (C154PBK), Dragonfly 2 Salt (C28PYL2), Military M390 CF (C36CFM390P), R (C67GF), ParaMilitary2 CTS-XHP (C81GPOR2), Tuff (C151GTIP), Ladybug & Perrin Street Bowie (FB04PBB)being the newest.
Maybe 2. I don't have many friends who are into knives. I gave my best friend a brown Delica and a Dragonfly 2. He liked them so much, he bought a Para 2 for himself.
I also gave my father-in-law a SS Dragonfly. So far, he carries it, and hasn't lost it yet. But, I'm not sure if he's a convert yet. I can't figure him out because a few years ago, he was carrying a mini Socom elite, but after he lost that one, he's had cheap gas station knives. I show him new, interesting Spydies I get, but he usually only seems mildly interested. I guess I'll have to wait and see what he gets once he loses his Dragonfly.

Your father-in-law is immune to the Spydie bite. This calls for a fishing trip. Rig it so that he gets a good Spydie to use :Dgbelleh wrote:Maybe 2. I don't have many friends who are into knives. I've gifted one.friend a Ladybug and a Karambit. I wasn't using it it and I knew he'd love it. He carries the Ladybug 24/7. He says, it's just so small and handy why wouldn't you carry it?
I'm thinking about getting him a Cricket. I'm absolutely in love with mine.
It won't be long now before he's spending diaper money on Spydies and his wife puts him on the street. :D

Same here and I don't get it, I think the cool factor and cheep price of mass produced blades has people confused. With those you'll be sharpening all the time and you will usually end up chucking them in the recycle bin.chuck_roxas45 wrote:My friends all like my spydies but they're just too cheap to buy quality knives. I have bought about a dozen people knives from Spyderco's "budget lineup" of the tenacious and bug series. Only one of my friends has gone out and purchased a :spyder: their own.
While I'm not advocating that people only buy Spydeco's, I just came across some great deals and felt like getting people some quality gear in general.
I hope to have converted my younger brothers and sister to Spyderco knives since recently giving each of them some Spyders from my collection;
a Military CE for my brother who is a cop,
a Para 2 for my brother who is studying to be an aircraft mechanic,
a Para 1 PE for my brother who is studying to be a music teacher,
and an old school Meerkat PE to our baby sister(still in high school).
I wanted to introduce them to high performance cutting tools so they would stop using those $5 convenience store pocket 'knives'. :D

I'm not about to give any of my friends any spydies because I know they'll like it but won't ever think of spending anything close to what a Tenacious costs for a knife. These guys spend major money on guns, ammo, and other gear but won't even contemplate buying a quality knife. Who am I to give them a good knife if they don't want one?MachSchnell wrote:Same here and I don't get it, I think the cool factor and cheep price of mass produced blades has people confused.
