Gayle Bradley idea.

Post by quattrokid73 »

I love the tank of a knife Gayle Bradley pattern, especially with M4.

That said, the carbon scales aren't my style. Especially with the hard use pattern and blade geometry, I'd prefer G10. Grippier, less pricey.

How awesome would this knife be in grey G10 like the 20cp para?

What does everyone else think?

I wouldn't like that at all. The GB is like a wolf in sheep's clothing. It looks very nice, civilized and classy, but it is a very tough and durable knife that will probably take anything you can throw at it. And I like that a lot.

Also, a collab with those materials that you can get for about $120-125...even if you did put G10 on it I doubt that you would see any price difference. And it would then loose it's character.

Personally, I don't mind the grey G10 but I've seen a lot of comments from people who don't like the color. For a hard use knife, the grey would show up dirt more.

I actually like the twill CF that comes on the Gayle Bradley, that is my favorite scale material. It is not slick like the polished CF on the Caly 3. And G10 starts out nice and grippy, but to me after I've been carrying my G10 knives for awhile, the sandpaper-like roughness wears off quickly and they have about the same grippiness as the twill CF.

Normally I prefer textured G10, but I love the light textured CF that Taiwan puts out, but if you want different scales:

I think you should make your own G10 scales. G10 is cheep, easy to get, and with this knife should be a snap to accomplish. Just cut out, drill, and grind too shape.
I do this often.

I find the twill CF just about ideal. It's grippy enough, looks good, and won't shred pockets like grippy G-10 can.

OOH, so the CF is not slicked out like on the UKPKs? It looks it in photos, so I always thought it would be completely smooth.

I agree with DeathBySnooSnoo... I've had mine since Christmas (what a wife I have :) ), and I have to say the durability of the CF is rather amazing. I've EDC'd it about half the time I've owned it, carved an entire Pinewood Derby car with it, and generally worked the heck out of it, and the CF still looks new. This knife absolutely rocks! It's kind of like a Sean Connery James Bond at a black-tie dinner -- best looking guy at the party who can whip all the bodyguards in the room, and when the fight's over the tux still looks freshly pressed.

Of course, they could make a budget GB, with VG-10 steel, bi-directionally textured FRN scales, maybe in some cool colors, and sell it for around $80. But wait... wouldn't that be a Stretch? :)

nope, it is textured/twill carbon fiber and like folks say, it looks great and has pretty decent traction. also if it's not your style there are so many good scale makers in the knife community.

I like it the way it is. I get G10 smooth around the corners within a month of EDC. Not the case with the Basket CF. Its good stuff.

I really like the idea because the knife is capable of tough work but too pretty. I use my Manix2 with grey G-10 if my knife is going to get dirty. So, I have wanted to make a set of G-10 scales for my GB. But when I start shopping on line for the scale material I always end up looking at and deciding to get some real pretty wood for the GB. After all that I haven't done anything. I love the GB as is and since I have the Manix2 for the dirty work I have decided not to make scales for the GB. BUT, if I didn't have the Manix2 (or beater knives), I would change the GB and use a smaller knife (Chaparral, Sage1) when I want to carry a nice looking knife. I feel like I'm wasting a lot of the GB's capability. I know it's there if needed and that feels good.

I'd say spyderco makes a lot of great knives with G10, don't mess up the GB. But you could make it bigger!
