chinook play

#1

Post by axis27 »

Sup ppl?

I just bought another chinook I traded my last one and regretted it, so I had to buy a new one.

However, I was wondering, how much play should there be in this lockback? The one I recieved had more play than my last, its kind of noticeable this time. I know some should be there, but wasn't sure how much should be?

If anyone has a good idea on whether I should be concerned about this, let me know. Thanks. have a good one

Actually, to give you a better idea, this play is visually noticeable, I can see the blade move in its contact with the back of the knife.

The Chinook is not a knife I know much about so I can't really help you.

However, I have seen quite a few posts on blade play with the Chinook IIRC.

Hmmm..I'll see if I can find something <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Well I guess I was wrong, or those posts were on bladeforums.Because the posts I looked at had the generalization that it is built like an ox, or a "bank vault"(as one post said), so I assume play isn't normal in a Chinook.

THanks man, I've checked them out. I think most Chinooks and lockbacks in general have play in them.

My friend has a Chinook too and his does the SAME thing as mine, so I guess mines okay. THanks alot.

I think I remember Sal once saying that a tiny amount of play is unavoidable.

I noticed that the Chinook has a screw on the clip side of the handle, can't you tighten that to take out some of, or all the play? I loosened the screw on our BM 834 to lighten up the action, and it worked, and the blade still has no play. That may, or may not work. RKBA!

Is the play from side to side or up and down? If it is side to side I would send it to Spyderco for warranty. I had a Chinook with side to side play and they replaced it.
The one I have now is super tight.

Some laws permit, what honor dose not.

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum, but I've been a lover of Spyderco knives since they first appeared on the market. I just purchased a Chinook and I do have a question about its "play".

Mine is super tight. So tight that it's sometimes difficult to get it open. I've tried lubricating and working it, but it's still stiff as can be. Every other Spyderco knife I've ever had has opened smoothly and locked tightly enough. This one is, indeed, like a "bank vault", and I'm happy about that, but does everyone else have difficulty opening theirs?

I'm a big guy and powerfully built, so believe me, that's not the issue. Any feedback would be appreciated.
