Spyderco Endura Stiff. Any tips?

#1

Post by Kousii »

I have an endura 4 FRN for about a month now. I open and close it on average 10 or 20 times a day. I washed it with soap, blow dried it, put WD-40 then gun oil. Still feels tight. Any tips on what should I do?

Have you tried loosening the pivot a bit?

Keep using it, it should break in. Better to start a little snug and wear in with some use IMO. Otherwise, very slight adjustment of the pivot should yield a smoother action without play.

There's usually a sweet spot where there's no play but smooth action. Just adjust bit by bit.

Have you tried polishing compound in the pivot?

I read an article by Michael Janich in which he stated that he used a little jewelers compound, scraped into the pivot and then added some oil and worked it some, creating a slurry. He then rinsed it out with hot soapy water and dried it and the lubed it.

Years ago an old timer told me to make a slurry of Comet/Ajax and get it worked into the pivot area of a stiff Buck knife that I had. I recall it seemed to work. I like Michael Janich's version and would recommend that procedure. Also, sit in front of the TV and open and close a hundred or so times with the slurry.
