All I want is a USER C-111

I'm having trouble even finding a used one at this time. And I've been on a serious search for the past 2 months or so.

It still troubles me that they never offered the C-111 Captain model in Spyderedge. And I mean to leave the rounded end of the blade PE but the arch could be serrated and that would be a true beast of a knife.

Yeah the Captain got whacked way before it should have IMO. But I wouldn't be surprised to see it back with an orange G-10 handle or something of the like.

I won't quit until I find a "user" Captain model myself

Countrry Knives, who sells at full MSRP, is out of them. That makes me think the chances of finding one from a reliable dealer online are zero, or darn close to it, so eBay is probably your best bet. Next best would be keeping an eye on the BladeForum Exchange and the sales areas of other knife forums where sales are allowed. Might get one for a better price that way or you might go six months without seeing one up for sale.

I wouldn't expect to get a NIB at any rate.

I would love to see sprints. :)

I've been interested in picking one up as well, but current prices are a bit too rich for my blood. A sprint would be nice, but probably not too likely.

I am surprised by the going rate on the secondary market. The Captain is a cool design. It was not an especially hot seller and I got one for a really modest price several years ago. But, like many unique designs, its price has shot up after being discontinued. It reminds me of the art world, in which an artist's work is not really in demand until after he dies.

It's fairly typicial for different designs. Yojimbo and Dodo too. I'm sure the Poliwog is on that train before soon.

I would also include the Barong and Khukuri to that list. :) Either one is incredibly difficult to find at a decent price (even in used condition).

The Poliwog is already on that train. The stainless model is selling for anywhere from $150 to $300-ish on E-bay, when you can find one. At the end of it's production run, the were going for $65 to $85 dollars on the same. I think I got mine for about $65 to $70. My son is hoping that it is going to be part of his inheritance when I kick the bucket.

That's been one of Spyderco's frustrations for years. They close a slow moving knife out, sometimes at a loss, only to watch it start selling for higher and higher prices on the secondary market.

Yeah but with the surging popularity that the Captain model has attained in the after-market to me it would just make sense to put out an orange handled version and a Spyderedged version for a Sprint run. As much fanfare as this model has generated it would probably be a "slam-dunk" as far as sales go. And just think how beautiful that model would be next to an orange Dodo and/or Military >>> this truly could have great possibilities

Popularity and market price may be two different things. It could be a relative handful of folks that are driving up bidding on the secondary market. Would there be 600 folks that would want an orange sprint? Maybe this is something to post as a new thread to gauge feedback?

Any bright color would do well IMO

With all due respect "DBSS" the original Jason Breeden Captain design was indeed a serrated version ( at least the prototypes I saw were anyway). And I did say earlier that I would like to still see the rounded end with the plain edge that it has now with the inner arch/belly part being made in Spyderedge.

Yeah I know I'm in the minority with a few other hard core Spyderedge fans>> but like it or not the Spyderedge models are in large part what put Spyderco in the big picture where they are today in the production knife market. And the Captain would truly be a chain saw in a folder in Spyderedge IMO.

As far as Orange handle>> there sure seems to be a lot of interest in the upcoming Orange Dodo and the Orange Military has sure gotten much interest in the past year or so. I still say it would be an interesting market ploy to bring back the C-111 model with some type of flair like that.

As far as bright colors for handles go I like the fact that it makes them easier to find if misplaced>> which is good for any knives you would be using outdoors. And really it could be any of the nuclear/flourescent colors for that matter.

I still say that this calls for a forum poll to see what kind of interest there is for an Orange Captain sprint. I am curious. Is anyone poll-savvy enough to create one?
