New Surefire: What a Powerful Surprise!!

#1

Post by JD Spydo »

Last year (2010) is a year that I would love to forget for many reasons. One of the casualties I had was the loss/theft of 2 of my most beloved Surefire flashlights. The 2 that got stolen were my rechargable L7 model and my E2d Defender.

Well I got a nice surprise last week and was graciously reimbursed for my loss finally ( it's a long story) and I got to go to a great dealer here in Kansas City known as Ambrosi Brothers Cutlery. They gave me one helluva deal on both models>> However the E2d Defender had changed so much for the better that I couldn't believe my eyes. The new LED version of this little "mini-flamethrower" has just blown my mind into the next dimension.

I am so blown away with how much better the newer LED version of the Surefire E2d Defender model is over the older model. I know that many of you all are also Surefire fans and probably already know about this great model. But for the rest of you all who have not test driven this great model I encourage you all to do so.

Surefire's LED technology is nothing short of mind blowing. Surefire & Spyderco should do some kind of a collaboration. Because both of these great American companies are stalwarts of quality and great service.

Did you mean that you want to forget 2011? 2010 is 2 years ago. :)

No I meant 2010>> it was only 13 months ago when that nightmare of a year ended thank GOD. And it has taken this long for the responsible parties to reimburse me. 2010 is what I would like to call my "Job year">> because I truly felt like the Old Testament icon Job out of the Bible in that year.

And it's been almost 14 months since I had both those great lights looted from me

But this new Surefire E2d Defender in my opinion is the very best flashlight of it's size range. Of course the L7 speaks for itself. It's also one super dependable recharable flashlight.

That E2d is a beautiful light, I received a Fenix TK21 for Christmas and I am so impressed by the power, and efficiency of the new lights. Gotta love technology. Just for the record I had one of those years in 2010,2011 was worse and although I am not overly optimistic about 2012 I am sure hoping. Here's to some good luck in twenty 12 :)

Wait until you see the 2012 catalog. The E2DL has been upgraded to 250 lumens and the LX2 now has a 500 lumen older brother! Can't go wrong with Surefire. Congrats!

I know that for the price the Fenix is a great buy. But I'm going to stick to Surefire as long as I can afford it because they are made here in the USA and their quality control is equal to that of Spyderco's or a number of other great American companies. But I just might get a Fenix for my glove box or tool box just to have a good inexpensive LED handy for those areas.

The Fenix would be my second choice for sure. If what that other good Brother said about the E2d Defender being ramped up even higher than what it already is>> Then I'll be working double overtime to get one of those for sure. When you get spoiled on great cutlery, great flashlights and other high quality tools then the Rip-mart rummage just don't get it

Thumbs way up for Surefire & Spyderco both!!

Idk, granted they are made in the USA, I feel like some surefires are ridiculously expensive. Especially considering they are behind on using the top leds out now and are low on features, if thats your thing. I know some people just still want a flashlight with a single mode or a dual mode flashlight, but with so many other options out there, I feel surefires name is a main reason for them staying a float. They made great achievements when they released their new G2x and 6x models, priced at an amazing value. But then people were having issues with them and then surefire jacked up the price by $30 bucks. My G2x pro has served well on my fire helmet, but if its in low mode and I tap it it switches to high. Not a huge deal, but if I crawling around in a smoky condition or in the dark and the light blinds someone...thats a problem. I contacted their warranty department, they took a while to reply and pretty much just told me to send my light in. Ive read that the issue is most likely the tail cap, but they still just wanted me to send it in. Not knowing how long it would take and not wanting to be without such an important piece of equipment, I decided not to send it in. Now I dont expect every company to be like this or curse Surefire, but in contrast I have had amazing dealings with 4sevens.

Yes they are not made in the US, but their quality is up there and their selection is extensive and fresh. They use the latest LEDs and their flashlights are loaded with features. You can also customize many of their flashlights and mix and match certain ones. Run times are top notch, lumen outputs are top notch and customer service is amazing. I had an issue with one of my lights, 4sevens worked with me to try to figure out the problem and after figuring out it couldnt be solved without sending it in they sent me a prepaid package immediatly. That was the other thing with surefire...I would have to send in my light on my own dime. One of my orders was also a bit messed up also, I contacted 4sevens and not only did they send me a prepaid package to return the wrong items, they sent my correct items at the same time. So didnt have to retun the stuff myself, and didnt have to wait for them to recieve them and process everything again in order for them to ship me my correct items. That is great customer service right there and a reason I continue to buy and stand behind 4sevens products.

Might I say, JD, that you sure do seem to lose a lot of nice items (SureFire lights & G10 Harpy). I'm sorry to hear of your bad luck. :( I hope all turns out well for you.

Really the Fenix is my first decent light, before that I was carrying a full size Maglite, I think their first generation LED. It weighs about 20 times as much as the Fenix because it takes 3 dcell batteries (probably enough to power the Phoenix for about a decade). It has about one quarter of the power and it has 2 modes On and Off :) (although you can focus the beam).

I looked at the Surefire at the time but it was out of the budget and I couldn't put my finger on why the big price difference. But I am sure it's a great light.

I just hope the Surefire Fury is indicative of their future product line. Until this light, I would have dismissed them as a dinosaur and stuck behind the times.

I cannot wait to try out SureFire's new Fury. I've always been a big fan of SF but I've been tempted to try out a Fenix or 4sevens.

The Fury looks cool and by far the most appealing Surefire, IMO. Shame it's not more than two modes at 15/500 but I guess that's better than one mode :) .

JD: check out Peak LED Solutions. Also made in the USA but tons of battery/led/output options. Brass, steel, alum, Ti, and so-on. Surefire has a better warranty and customer service I'm guessing but the value and options are off the charts.

I have the Logan 123 QTC which on a single CR123/IMR16340 is a beast. Twist brightness (optional momentary cap) from about .1-300 lumens :) .

I have the Original 6p (just changed the original) and E1 (original bulb) with me now, I have been on a Surefire frenzy.

looking at new stuff on the net.

One guy is selling SUREFIRE Millenium Series M3, some Marines been selling their M962 KIT01 kits.

I love the new M6LT model 800 lumens for 3.5 hours.

800 lumens for 3.5 hours   Holy popcorn Batman!!! I'm going down to see the dealer again later today to check that bad boy out.

What impressed me most about this new model LED version of the E2d Defender was the fact that it had many times longer battery life over the older incandescent version. The LED light even seems cleaner than the older generation of their other LED units>> or it seems to me like it is anyway. Maybe the guy that ripped me off of my L7 and original E2d did me a favor and I didn't even realize it

Because of the bad economic times I've been a bit out of the groove here in the past 2 years but I'm climbing back fast Thank GOD. There is definitely a lot going on in the flashlight arena and I've surely got some catching up to do. But thanks to my great Brethren ( Sisters too :D ) here at Spyderville I'm gonna be well equiped soon.

Also what do any of you know about holsters and other peripheral equipment? Maybe I ought to renew my membership over at Candlepower.com? Time to get movin

My E2DL has been in my pocket for almost a year now. I don't think I will ever be getting rid of it...none of my other lights even come close to it. Awesome, Awesome light.
