Blade Magazine vs. Knives Illustrated
Title says it all. Who subscribes to either or both of these magazines? Are they worth it? What kind of content can I expect from them (duh knives), but more specific like customs or productions etc? Which do you prefer? All feedback is much appreciated!
With the advent of forums why would you pay money for yesterdays info? Heck I bought one issue of blade to see if it was any good. I bought it in June and they were talking about SHOT show.... everything they show can be seen on forums for free in real time.

I subscribe to both and I like them.
Blade is a bit slicker with better photography and more emphasis on customs and individual makers, but still with pretty good general coverage.
KI is more general, covering a wider spectrum of knives.
True, you can probably find most of the information online or in the forums, and magazines and books are to some extent being replaced by the internet, but I still like certain magazines and prefer reading a hardcopy over reading a screen.
You can get a DVD set of Blade covering the years 1997-2007 on Amazon for about $30, which provides a lot of reference info at a pretty cheap price.

I took a 1 year subscription to Blade simply because it was cheap and I'm relatively new to the knife world. Given that I can find pretty much anything I'm interested in on the Internet for free, I won't be renewing.
Actually, I've let at least 10 magazine subscriptions lapse over the past few years as there simply is no reason to keep paying for "old" information.
