The Military - Spyderco impresses me again

#1

Post by KardinalSyn »

I am not a liner lock fan after one failed on me long ago. After that, I never even considered buying one.

So I trolled eBay looking for an old Millie to buy. No luck there and some were even going above the prices that online resellers were selling for and with no apparent reason.

Went ahead and bought a brand new Millie and it came today through USPS.

Well, I don't wanna bore you all with details about the Millie itself. However, know that I am no longer doubtful of liner locks. Spyderco impressed me again.

Hope there is a new run of the fluted Miltary, I red under 200 were made... and I would certainly pick-up a second one. But there is still one on ebay but at a rather high price $399

Sal, do you know if more fluted Ti Millies will be shipping in the near future? I've had one on preorder for months. The dealer is telling me they may be recieving a few later this month. Is that possible? Thanks

Glad you like it(thumb up icon)

I have alot of different knives from several makers, and companies, but I carry a Military more than any other knife.

Its a hard knife to beat with its light weight, great handle, and awesome blade geometry.

Hi Tdog,

We make them every month. Production is limited as it is not a easy model to make and we have other models that also require mfg time.

Is it better than the liner lock on the Tenacious, which cut my thumb 2 or 3 times due to the nonexistent kick?

Hahaha, put the knife on the table, does it cut you? What factor is out of the equation? That's the factor that cut you. ;)

Both my tenacious and persistence, like yours, have no choil. Never cut myself with those.

Oh yes, snarkiness. :p

So there is no such thing as a design problem? I'm not even claiming the Tenacious has one when I say this; but to take the possibility off the table isn't "snarkiness", it's a failure of imagination. I like analogies. Let's delve into one. Sure, why not?

I just brought my car in to have a NHTSA recall taken care of. There was a problem with the air bag which could have prevented it from activating in a frontal collision.

OK, before the recall notice went out, say I was injured or killed when my air bag didn't inflate because it was defective. "Hahaha, put the car in the garage, does it kill you? What factor is out of the equation? That's the factor that killed you. ;) "

No, we missed something.

This is where I add an edit to explain that not all collisions are the fault of the person with the defective air bag. Should I also add a smiley, so I can pretend I'm in kindergarten? I never know.

I've read a lot of reviews and I've watched a lot of videos on the Tenacious. I've seen lots of people say they cut themselves with it. I think Cutlerylover was being a bit careless, but I also think the kick is way too small.

I've used my Streches and Delicas far, far more than my Tenacious, and never been cut by either.

BTW, "choil" and "kick" -- not the same thing.

Wow! Wall of text. Ok, it's really simple. Your analogy fails because as you say the airbag triggers itself. No amount of care on the driver's part can prevent that if it's in the cards. On the Ten/Per line, care on the part of the user will prevent injury. It's as simple as that. If you just convulsively close and open a knife without thinking about what your doing, chances are you'll get cut. Did you cut yourself while using your knife or while playing with it?

BTW, the Ten does have a kick. It's the part that hits the stop pin so the edge doesn't hit anything in the handle when it's closed.

Also, I wasn't saying you were snarky. I was anticipating that you'd say that about my reply to your post. Apologies.

No, the air bag doesn't trigger itself. The problem was that it would fail to deploy in about 50% of cases where it should have. Replace "air bag" with "brakes that don't work all of a sudden", same thing. The analogy works if you realize the point being made is that not everything is 100% the fault of the user. When someone says "I was harmed by this", you don't just get to say "Leave it alone and you won't be harmed; it can't possibly be anything but you at fault".

I was cut when closing the Tenacious... Doesn't matter the circumstances but I was not mindlessly "playing with it". I use my Stretch constantly and close it without looking and never have had a problem. Part of this is because of the backlock, part is because the Strech actually has a %@#! kick so the blade has somewhere to go without drawing blood...

Yeah, whatever. My care factor just went to zero.

Oh goodness. It takes two things to contact for someone to get cut: Blade and skin. Of those two only one is an inanimate object.

Congrats on the great acquisition Kardinal. Sorry a positive thread was jacked by morose randomness.

Hey KS it is a really nice knife its such a BA knife I just haven't felt comfortable carrying one but I can see for the right purpose it would be a great. However I would pick up a fluted titanium Mili if one came up I could afford, Big or no Big I would make it work. Kindergarten grad :)
