Thanks to 1623 posting about an overstock sale of Des Horns at Cutlery Shoppe I received a package in the mail today with two of them in it. These are very nice & well built gentlemans knives even if they are from Taiwan. The price was great & delivery was fast.
I heard a lot of talk about them being on the fragile side & the tip of the blade being very delicate but for a gentlemans knife in my opinion they are built quite strong. I have some that are pretty week looking compared to these! As far as the pocket clip being made of wire that's just the nature of the beast. They are not loose and the side to side play is due to the fact that they are made of SPRING STEEL and this is normal. It shouldn't effect the way they work at all. I'm looking forward to using them for quite some time. :D

Glad to hear that you were able to get them Dave, and I apologize for not replying back to your last email, it's been a busy week.
Let us now how you like the Des Horn after some pocket time; I'm still on the fence about this one and would like to hear some additional feedback.

It's not just in my head, it's in my heart.

The Des Horn is very pointy & I was using mine to opperate on an ingrown toe nail. I was shifting to get a better dig at it when my right knee bumped my right hand with the knife in it & stabbed it into the palm of my left hand just below the thumb joint. The **** thing went in deep
& over the next few days got infected & swelled up with extreme joint pain & stiffness in the thumb.
So, here I am with a sore big toe & thumb on the left side & now on a course of antibiotics. :o
Be carefull of the Horn very, very carefull.
I do like it though & will continue to do self surgery with it as I think it is the best Spydie for that particular job.

Des Horn--POINT!!!
YES INDEED IT IS VERY POINTY but there appears to be enough metal at the point that it won't break off under normal use for this type of knife.
SORRY about your accident. I have to be very careful about getting cut with anything as I've had a heart attack and am on blood thinners and when I get cut it bleeds like a river & I have a hard time getting it to stop!!
This may sound crazy but I've been doing it for many years and it works. To stop ingrown toe nails cut a small "V" out of the center of the nail at the tip. For some reason the calcium or whatever it is tends to grow towards the "V" and fill it in leaving the sides to grow normaly. I do this every time I cut my nails and haven't had an ingrown nail since. I'm not sure if this will work on thumb nails but I don't see why not. I have told quite a few people about this and at first they look at me like I'm nuts but later they come back and thank me for the tip. I read about it someplace years ago and I'm not a Doctor before I hear that :D
As far as knives go handle them long enough and sooner or later you will cut yourself--accidents will happen!

THIS IS THIS !
Des Horn Impressions
First off, the knife looks and feels great! I love the simple design and elegant lines that compliment each other on the blade and handle. The knife overall seems to have a very nice weight balance when handling, and the tip of this folder is one of the finest I have seen. That thing will puncture any material with ease so be careful.
This is my first G10 handled knife I have purchased from Spyderco. All my others are stainless and I absolutely love them.
After a few days of pocket wear, I noticed the handle was susceptible to micro scratches in the glossy scaling. I would have preferred a material that would not be able to show signs of wear, especially since it is such a classy looking knife.
I was also skeptical about the wire clip. I am not too fond of the overall looks of the wire clip on an elegant Des Horn folder. I would have like to seen something more fashionable and less "cheap" looking.
Overall I am very satisfied with the knife. I would not pay retail for this knife. Because I was at 2012 SHOT Show I was able to get an amazing deal on one, that being said, I would not have purchased this knife otherwise.
