Getting into spydercos I wanted a way to keep mine factory sharp. Read lots of good press on the sharpmaker and was already used to a set of ceramic rods by Smith's so I figured it would be an easy transition. Received my SM approximately a week ago. Watched the video and looked through the guide before setting out to sharpen everything in my house.
Well, here I am a week later and I can't for the life of me seem to get my delica to be really sharp and stay sharp. For example, I just spent 30 minutes trying to be as precise as I can through the whole progression and even using the sharpie trick. After all that this thing cuts computer paper but not super easily as it came from the factory. It has a hard time cutting hair off my arm. I finally just gave up and went back to my smith's sticks.
What am I missing here? Do you guys just use the 30 degree or use the 30 degree as the back bevel and 40 for the edge? I have been working on this one on 30 degree alone. I stood directly over it and tried to keep the spine straight up and down while using mainly the wrist. the sharpie test didn't reveal much. Please enlighten me on how to do this. Sal and everyone on youtube make it look so easy!
Thanks for your time
