Barkeeper's friend
Is this stuff found in stores? If so, which ones? Wal Mart, grocery stores? People have mentioned it to clean ceramic stones but I've never seen any. But, I don't see things like that unless I'm looking for it. I've found where to order it online of course but don't want to pay $8 shipping for a $2 item.
Thanks for any help.
Jack
PS
I tried comet and it didn't do any better than toothpaste. If toothpaste and brush is as good as BKF I'll just be happy with toothpaste, which I actually am I guess. At least it's always in the house.
Thanks for any help.

Great stuff for cleaning sinks too! I user it to clean off my ultra fine ceramic bench stone.

It worked ok but didn't get the stone completely white. That may be normal. Also, the scrubbing pad was VERY old and worn out.DRKBC wrote:That's a hard tag line not to read, not at all what I expected :) Have you tried Ceramic cook top cleaner? Actually I haven't yet but I have some at home I will try it tonight and let you know if it works. Comet and a Scotch bright didn't work for you?
My wife happens to be at Wal Mart now and I called her to see if she could find some. If she thinks I want to clean something in the kitchen and not use it for a knife related thing she may try to find it. :D

ZUD works too and Bon Ami cleaning powder is similar. Amazon carries all three.

I've used Commet, Bon Ami, and Bar Keeper's friend all with gret results. Honestly I haven't found a big difference between them when i'm cleaning my stones. I think the most helpful part is having some Scotchbrite pads to scrub with.Pinetreebbs wrote:ZUD works too and Bon Ami cleaning powder is similar. Amazon carries all three.

BKF is the best I've tried yet
You can get Bar Keeper's Friend just about anywhere you can get Comet and Ajax or any of the other popular scouring powders.
When I clean my stones I probably go overboard to some extent. But it works so well I just won't change until I find some better method.
I first give the stones a good scrubbing with either Comet or Ajax. I then clean the stones thoroughly with Bar Keeper's Friend by using a very fine, stiff bristle Brush or an industrial grade Scotch Brite pad. I always have the stones come out like they came from the factory.
These ceramic stones cut so much better when they are clean. I've also done overnight soakings that seem to help. I'm experimenting now with soaking them in some new stuff and I'll let you all know how they come out.
But Bar Keeper's Friend does the best final cleaning of anything out there I've tried thus far.

A nitric acid bath is how I get them perfectly white again.

Sorry Jack, Ironically Nitric acid turns children yellow and makes them cry.jackknifeh wrote:Can you use that stuff on your kids?
