My stash from Golden with pics of the Yo 2

#1

Post by Onionman »

Last Friday I stopped at the SFO in Golden during my trip to Denver. Because I did not want to check my new knives on my trip back, Spyderco offered to ship them back to my house free of charge. Just got here today. Here is my stash, including pics of the Yo 2!

Image

As you can see from the pics, blade appears bigger than it is sitting next to the Para 2.

Image

Next to the PPT and Cat.

Image

The blade is thick along the entire top edge. It does add to the weight, but the knife is balanced.

Fits comfortable in the pocket but sticks out a bit.

The important thing was that I had an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time. You couldn't get white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

That has to be the most badass 3 inches of blade i've ever seen. That thing has stout written all over it.

Wow all this time and i just noticed there's no lanyard tube on this knife. Seems it would've been prett easy to center one up right at the butt of the handle instead of another pin.

I like that the Yo2 sticks out that much from the pocket. I wonder how it will do in meat tests.

I didn't really think I wanted a Yo2 until I saw this thread. Now I must have one!

Thanks for the comparison pics Onionman. I think for a knife of this sort you want it to stick out so that it's easier to grab from your pocket.

The only thing missing is a pic of the rest of us jealously enjoying your Yo2.

That thing is a beast. The Yojimbo 2 is so freakin' awesome. Even with the wharncliffe blade it may be the "end all be all" knife. That may just replace the Para 2 and Gayle Bradley in my pocket. That thing is pure awesome!

Thanks for posting the pics! Interesting seeing the Yojimbo next to the PPT and how they share a similar shape. Makes me think of the PPT a bit differently now.

I don't like clip. It should be special for this model. Also missing hole in handle. Sorry, but I really love first design of Yo.

Darn it, for some reason I thought it came with a lanyard hole this whole time. However this knife is still a top contender in replacing my Para2 EDC.

Thanks for the pictures!

I never realized that the lanyard hole was missing since I rarely use one, but I guess that could be a problem for some people.

Carried it last night and this morning and noticed a few things. First, the compression lock, which takes a little bit of effort to unlock the blade, does not allow the blade to drop like the Para 2. The blade seems to get stuck on something on the way down and needs a little push to get it going. I can still close with one hand, but it takes a little getting used to. I have no plans to take apart the knife to see what's going on but it appears it was intentionally designed this way. The more I open and close it the easier it gets, so I may just need to work it in.

I also noticed that the cut out where the compression lock is gets caught on my pants when I put the knife back in my pocket. Not a big thing but can get annoying. I will try a few different ways to get it in and out of the pocket to see if I can get it to go in more smoothly.

Still love the knife. But like any knife with a new design, you just have to break it in and get used to handling it.

It looks like you could tie a lanyard onto the last pin since it's right at the tip of the handle, just as long as the blade doesn't get too close.

I also noticed that the lock tab cutout is squared instead of rounded...i'm not sure if i'll like that, could be a future mod for sure, those squared edges are what's catching your pocket going in (and maybe coming out?).

I'm not sure about the blade drop thing...probably just needs worked in. With the blade being heavier than the Para 2's, i would expect it to drop with ease.
