Scratched FRN

#1

Post by henhen14 »

Well today my mom dropped my Delica on the pavement and it landed 10 feet from us  Everything still works, but there are a few minor scratches in the FRN. Is there any way to smooth it back out, like with sandpaper? Thanks

You will be able to smooth out the FRN with sand paper, but it will not have the same texture as when it came out of the mold. Can you post a picture of the damage? Just curious. :)

Haven't tried this, but you might have better results with a round burnishing tool or equivalent.

Try to forgive your Mom. I don't know about you but I put my Mom through a lot more **** than her dropping something of mine. Anyway, your Delica is a tough knife and will hold up to a lot more than a drop. That always makes me feel good about my Spydercos. I don't know how to get scratches out though. I wish you luck with that. Just curious, which Delica do you have? What color and blade?

If it bugs you that much, just sand it. You can start with rougher, then go to finer to finish it. Go as fine as you want. I've sanded lots of FRN.

- best wishes, Jazz.

I agree with Jazz. If you go to the auto supply store, you can get some really fine grit paper, sometimes up to 2000 grit. If you start out with medium grit and sand it with finer and finer grits, you should be able to get a nice finish on it. I've done this with a couple of my first gen Spydies just to keep them cleaned up.

I was thinking just superglue over it, so there's no scratches...
