Centofante 3/4 Palladium spyder tarnish?

#1

Post by Evil D »

Has anyone ever had tarnish issues with their palladium spyder in the handle of their Centofante 3 or 4? I haven't carried mine for a while, it's been in the box but i pulled it out tonight and the spyder is definitely a little tarnished.

I've used mine for a few years now, and the spider inlay is still as shiny as it was when I bought it (quite a few scratches though, but that's to be expected).

Does cleaning it make any difference ? Alcohol works well for me.

Something like alcohol our acetone may clean it , even some stropping paste would work and make it a mirror polish

I tried a jewelry polish cloth but it didn't do anything. I'll have to see if i have some polish.

Hmm, I just checked mine an its as shiny as the day I opened the box. I'd try a little Flitz or Semichrome if some stropping paste doesn't work.

Yeah i'm a little surprised, it almost looks like patina. Maybe i had greasy fingers or something the last time i put it away and that tarnished it. I usually wipe down my knifes with a microfiber town before i box them.

Anyway, today i was lusting after the Yojimbo 2 (which is almost a daily thing now) and it dawned on me that the Cento 4 is pretty similar in certain ways. They're both hollow grind wharnies, and the way the spine is shaped on both of them offer similar grip options. I really wish the Cento 3/4 made it out with a compression lock.

Palladium does not react with oxygen, like silver does. I doubt fingerprints would affect it.

Didn't the Vesuvius have a Comp lock? That's about as close as you'll get.

I don't have the 3 but I love the 4. It's what turned me on to wharnies. Can't wait for the Yo2.

Carry it. Your pocket will shine up the spyder just lovely.

I have the same problem: tarnish on the spyder in the handle of the Centofante 3.
I carry mine often, it is my preferred small EDC.

Just a random tidbit, Palladium is what Iron Man's arc reactor in his chest is (partially) constructed of :D
