Cruwear Mule Team

#1

Post by sal »

Hi all,

We regret to inform you that the recent Mule Team 12 for Cruwear was not heat treated properly and the performance of the steel cannot be reached as is. We have stopped shipping the piece and we are recalling all those sent out for re-heat treating. Sorry about that.

Thanks for being so upfront about it. That's why I love Spyderco. If you guys make a mistake, you fix it. I've been holding off on getting one of these because of the problems I've seen, but look forward to adding one to my collection once they are fixed.

I was just about ready to finish the scales on my two MT12s. Ill just go ahead and finish them. I'll be obtaining all future Mule releases anyway so its good practice for me.

My condolences Sal. I am sure no one is as unhappy about this as you must be.

Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks,

Sorry to hear there was a problem. I know for me and many of us it never gets old to have the President of Spyderco address an issue with honesty and integrity. Sal your a rare breed. thanks for that.

Hi LaoTzuMinbdFu,

Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

Why don't you send those back to us and let us make them harder and more fun to use.

If only I had a penny for everytime someone said "if only" :D

If only I hadn't keyed the tang of my mule and epoxied the pricey Halpern LE scales on with epoxy before "matt-finishing" the surface...

If... then I wouldn't be spending my Fri night doing this:

But if Sal didn't produce the Mules I would not get to try great steels in a great fixed-blade platform.

So bring on the next mule and good on you, Sal, for personally addressing this issue.

Sal, do you ship Mules to New York? I know your company has a policy now that you will not ship any knife products other then slipits or sharpening systems, thanks to our great new NYC DA.

First off thank you Sal and company for handling these things the way you. It is why Spyderco blades are in my pockets most of the time (and the high quality and willingness to let us play with so many new and different materials).

Is there a preferred way to return the Mule? In the original Spyderco box inside a USPS priority box? Should we return them ASAP or give you time to prepare?

Thank you. Mike

Sal -

Sorry this happens, but character always shines most clearly when the chips are down.

Does your post quoted above mean that you are going to re-harden these and put them back up for sale and T&E?

Sal, Thanks for being on top of things as usual! I was going to purchase one last night but I saw the thread where members were having some issues and stated you would looking into it first thing, so I waited knowing you would be all over the problem if there was one. Thanks for addressing the situation promptly. This is why I am a Spyderco Fan.
How long do you think it will be before they are rereleased?

Yet another reason I only by Spyderco knives. In going with Spyderco you're not just buying an awesome knife, you're buying the integrity that makes them that way.
